19-21 Aug ’16 - 5th Niederrhein Tour

Would you believe it, in 2016 the Niederrhein Tour will be held for the fifth time, which means we have a little jubilee!

So let’s do something special, I thought, and this time we will connect the Lower Rhine (the French département du Bas Rin in English) with the German region Niederrhein (which also translates as Lower Rhine). Therefore, we will meet in Strasbourg on Friday, the 19th August.

All information about this tour (and pictures and routes from the last years) can be found on the tour’s web site. Registration for the 2016 event is open as well.

16 registrations now (myself included), and many new faces coming, too! :thumbsu:

For the time being, it looks to be a pure Anglo-German event. I do hope our friends from Holland and Belgium will join as well. Have also posted it on the french forum. 25 cars is the limit this year.

Which I am very happy about, it just wouldn’t be the same without the two of you. I’ve added you to the web site already.

I have published the event on mgf.be as well and Kasper has commented, but it has become very quiet at the neighbours’ at the moment. :?

Same done on the French forum but sadly Marina has posted that she has to give it a miss this year. She’s saving euros and kilometres for Portugal in 2017. :(

Maybe some don't like committing so early (which is a strange concept to me as I like to plan - but that's me!)

Your tour is filling up fast Mykel :thumbsu:

Where I work (part time as a freelancer tbtg, so not applicable to me!), staff had to hand in holiday applications for 2016 until end of November.

Also, trying to block 25-ish rooms at a hotel in the countryside even on 6 months notice is a funny experience.

But you’re right of course, it’s filling up quickly, just 5 places available now. :thumbsu:

As a Virgo , I like to have everything planned and organised, down to the last detail, well in advance. Mykel's organisation and planning are just two of the reasons that I enjoy his Tours so much and look forward to each new one from the moment I get home from the last. Of course, as a Virgo I agonise over where my bed will be on the final night and how far I shall be from the ferry and how long it will take me to get home.

It all looks a good plan.
We had the pleasure of living in Basel for 4 years before retiring in 2001. No, we are not that old.
Bas Rhin and the Black Forest were our summer playground. The Swiss Alps took over in the winter.
You cannot visit the area without going to some of the Main Attractions.
The largest Motor Museum The National Motor Museum in Mulhouse. The private collection of the Schlumpf brothers. No MGs but 100 plus Bugattis are a small part of it.
Lucerne, a City on the lake with a very good Transport Museum.
The City of Freiburgh and the Black Forest. A traditional German town with a pedestrian free centre, the Cathedral and excellent Hostelries.
Etc.Etc.
We would love to join you however we are past weekend whistle stop tours and would need at least two weeks.
Enjoy it.
Geoff F.

Well, girls and boys, it’s a pleasure to announce to you that – after just six days – we are now FULLY BOOKED with 25 cars attending the event! The largest regional group will be from the Essex region this year, with eight MGFs and TFs coming over. :thumbsu: This is a great opportunity to try and return the favour of a superbly organised MGFIM in May this year, which (as we all know) was done by you.

I will now go into detailed planning (visits, meals and hotels) and give you an update about the details (where and when to meet, especially for those of you who can’t make the early bird meet), and how much and how to pay, of course. Most of this should be ready until :santa: comes around.

Just to make sure that John finds his sleep in the forthcoming months, the final destination is of course not to be disclosed prematurely, but the journey to the ramp at Dunkirk will be exactly 202 miles which (according to Mr. Google) will take three hours and eleven minutes. :D 8-)
