Denmark & Sweden ~ ideas for where to go and stay
Contemplating a holiday in Denmark and Sweden this summer. Would appreciate ideas on where to visit (must see places) and suggestions for places to stay. Will be going in the TF, so good parking needed

Re: Denmark & Sweden ~ ideas for where to go and stay
Good choice Nigel, you'll love it (shame you don't have time to visit Norway).
I assume you're travelling up to Denmark via Germany rather than ferry to Esbjerg. Consider taking the nice little ferry from Fynshav to Bojden then on to Nyborg to cross the Storebaelt bridge.
My first recommendation is Copenhagen then continue east across the magnificent Oresund tunnel/bridge into Sweden at Malmo, worth a visit too. Contact Per-Ove Nigrell of the MGCC Sweden, he lives there.
To make things simple, as the country is huge, hug the west coast as far as Falkenberg, depending on how much time you have. Try to avoid motorways if you can and enjoy the scenery and quiet roads.
An option is to hug the south coast round to Kalmar, get in touch with Lotte Halstrom, she's the rep for the Swedish south coast centre, where the 2017 Swedish national meeting is to be held (we're probably going).
You can't go wrong, everywhere is lovely but the coastal roads just take it, you'll see countless amounts of painted holiday homes and every town is worth stopping and taking a walk.
Hope this snippet helps, we've been there several times now and it's still as gorgeous as the first visit.
As for where to stay, ask Per-Ove or use booking.com (as an example) parking will not be a problem, there's little risk to the car and most hotels have their own parking areas.
It's pretty expensive though, especially food and drink.
For a treat, take the ferry from Helsingborg-Helsingor (Sweden to Denmark and vv), leave the car in Helsingborg and cross several times while having dinner, there's a nice hotel by the ferry terminal, we stayed there in 2005 (the night before Andy's rose joint snapped under his gear selector, poor Emma, she was driving at the time !).

Re: Denmark & Sweden ~ ideas for where to go and stay
Thanks both. Really want to go to Norway again, but as there's no direct ferry The ferry to Esbjerg from Harwich is no more, so as we have to drive all the way from the Hook of Holland, there's no real time to get where we want in Norway when we only have a maximum of 14 days and we don't want long drives every day, so pondering Denmark & Sweden as we've never been (apart from spending several hours in Copenhagen airport on route to Norway).

Re: Denmark & Sweden ~ ideas for where to go and stay
This should be in the European section Nigel so we know where to find it in the future
If you really want to do Norway you could - I have, in less time than 2 weeks, and that included 4 nights at the Swedish EEOTY, 2 nights at Gereinger Fjord, and 2 nights on the beach at Falkenberg. It all depends how much you really want to go,there!!!
2 days from Somerset and you can be in Malmo driving up through Germany into Denmark quite easily
Go for it

Colin, moved to Europe section as requested
This would be my 5th time in Norway, so thinking it might be nice to try somewhere different

Re: Denmark & Sweden ~ ideas for where to go and stay
The town of Ribe is well worth a visit in Denmark. The oldest town in the country.
I can't help with accommodation recommendations as I have only camped in Denmark and I suspect you wont want to do this.
It would be worth giving Kjeld a message as he lives half way up Denmark in Randers.
The drive over and 'under' the Storebaelt bridge is worth doing.
The ferry ride from Helsingborg-Helsingor as Adrian said was good fun and the food was surprisingly good for a ferry. Many local take this trip as a fun way to have a night out.

Re: Denmark & Sweden ~ ideas for where to go and stay
Hi Nigel.
Sounds a wonderful idea to visit Denmark and Sweden , and as Adrian puts it, it is very nice.
You would be very welcome to stay at our summerhouse on your way through.
Adrian & Dawn and Colin and co. have spent the night here in the past.
We have enjoyed their company, and would look forward to seeing you, if you like and it fits in with your plans.
The summerhouse is in mid-jutland, in the vicinity of a small village called Lundø, and lies on a peninsula.
There is plenty of room for everyone, and maybe Kjeld and Elên would come too.

Yep, it's a great stay Alan and Jette make you very welcome. A few beers to stock up the fridge never go amiss.
