Kempenrit & the European event of the Year, Zug

Postby adrianclifford » Tue Dec 04, 2007 10:57 am

The annual trip to Kempenrit in Belgium and the European event of the Year (Eeoty) in Zug, Switzerland are now starting to take shape.

Kempenrit is on August 3rd and Switzerland is from August 8th to the 14th.

We are combining both events next year as we are already in Europe ready for the drive to Switzerland, it doesn't make sense to come home for a day or two then return. So the days in between (Monday to Thursday) will be spent driving some scenic roads along the vineyards of Germany in the Moselle region, the Rhine and some great Swiss mountain passes.

We will call in to some lovely villages and finish in Silandro near to the base of the Stelvio Pass which we will drive up on the Thursday then continue on the Zug ready for the start of the main event.

Anybody who wishes to attend just one (either) or both of the events is more than welcome to do so of course, please let me know so I can give you the details for your booking. The Eeoty is filling rapidly at the moment, the details were only announced on Saturday and very soon it will be at capacity, as it does every year.

Channel crossings will be by both train and ferry and our regular stop in Mechelen for the Kempenrit, the Hotel Vé, has already been booked on a full board basis as it was in 2006.

We leave the UK on the morning of August 2nd, linking up with mgf.be for our usual Day BeFore for our escorted trip to Mechelen. After the Kempenrit event on Sunday you can leave for the UK or stay on until Monday, do some shopping and leave then. We will depart for Switzerland meeting up with others on the way. If you wish to attend just the Eoety then we will meet there. Calais to Zug is about 540 miles or so.

Hakan is arriving with 10 cars from Sweden and Denmark on the Thursday, we are attempting to all stay in the same hotel in Zug for the week.

If you are interested be very quick, expect a cost of around £1700 - £1800 for the whole two weeks in a car of two, slightly less if you are solo. We will return to the UK on Saturday evening 16th August.

Have to say I'm slightly disappointed we can't make both. Finances won't allow us to do the whole thing and Kate & I were looking forward to doing just the Kempenrit trip, as we're off to Jersey for the airshow the first week in September. It might be possible we take the escape route half way through, back to blighty. Can you give an approximate costing for just the Kempinrit bit? I think we'll have to re-evaluate our holidays next year...

Rich.

Put me down for Kempenrit only please Adrian, leaving UK on Sat 2 Aug and returning from Mechelen on Mon 4 Aug. I'd love to do the EOTY as well, but it's too long for me to be away from home.

Rich/Nigel will do.

Hannelore is working on the full catering, as we had in 2006, when she gives me the figures I can add up the costs to give you a pretty good idea.

I have already reserved 15 rooms with her at the Hotel Vé so just keep me aware if you want to attend one event or the whole thing.

We currently have 23 cars attending from 5 different countries with more planning to attend.

Just an update really, it is now getting difficult to get a hotel room in or around Zug so if you are interested in this event please drop me a line very soon. The capacity is only 300 cars, without doubt the event will over subscribe. We have so far 22 cars and our rooms are booked in the same hotel so we are safe.

If you are only coming over for the Kempenrit weekend only, please let me know as I have 15 rooms already confirmed and I am taking 5 more, Hannelore (the owner of the Hotel Vé for those of you who don't know her) has another group wanting to stay the same weekend but she is giving us priority so please get in touch quick if you are still thinking about it.

Which hotel have you chosen to stay at in Zug ??
The 1st two weeks of August are the height of the European holiday season. The worst time for hotel availabilty with top prices and very busy roads. Essential to have hotel reservations for the full route. Stelvio was busy in late September so I would expect a traffic jam in August.
Our tentative plans are to travel to Saverne (just before Strasbourg) on Friday 1st, before the weekend rush. Saturday takes us into the Swiss Alps south of Interlaken for 6 days hill/mountain walking, relazing, eating, drinking etc.etc. http://www.silberhorn.com then onto Zug. Return maybe Monday/Tuesday again to miss the traffic.

Geoff, doing a search of available hotels show that nearly all are full or taking last bookings. The Zug Tourist office has taken them all especially for the event, we are here : http://www.hotelaesch.ch/ The hotel is right on the lake and it's a 3* . If you find the hotel on a Google search you can get a direct translation from the German.

If you are taking part in the event ask to be placed in this hotel under the group booking of MGF Register.
