Spare key in Canada

Post by CDN_Stig » Tue Jul 17, 2012 6:12 pm

Anyone know who can code an extra key? Didn't realize these had immobilizers ... such a pain. It's a Japanese export, 1996.

Just a thought, do you have a Land Rover dealer nearby, they may have the equipment.

LRNA won't have the right cable or the CD's and many don't even use Testbook anymore, not even IDS, they have gone to the " cloud" now!!

Mark from Ontario (aka as mowog73 on here) is having a programming device shipped to him which might do the trick. You should drop him a PM if that's not to far away. I am not sure whether the immobilisers on jap cars were fundamentally different from the European ones, though.

The only other solution I can think of would be to get a full setup (replacement ecu with alarm unit "married" to it plus two fobs) from the UK fleabay. They come quite cheap from 40 pounds.

Hi I am waiting delivery of a code reader / encoder
I know Japanese immobiliser Fobs used a different frequency from UK ones, so you have specify frequency if you order a new one.
I am in Alberta BTW

CDN_Stig happens to be in British Columbia, just a few thousands miles to me. I've put him onto Rich, who also has a programming device.

Canadian Land Rover dealers stock the correct fob for the early MGFs but want a small fortune for it. I'm suspicious that they could code it as well but the dealer close to me had no interest in being at all helpful.

The Uk fobs are a different frequency than the Jap Spec cars, but the good news for Jap spec owners in Canada is the frequency and the same fob as North American Land Rover Disco 1 and can usually be found used quite cheap!
