It's Finally Here!

Post by Rich in Vancouver » Wed Mar 02, 2011 5:38 am

After 10 weeks of waiting my 1996 MGF has finally arrived and I couldn't be happier!
The poor car has seen a lifetime of snow and cold on the way here. In December it was snowed in tn the UK for two weeks.
It made it's way from Southampton to Halifax on the MV Fidelis where it promptly had another metre of snow dumped on it and stayed put for another two weeks. When it finally was loaded on the train it took another 3 weeks crossing Canada at temps of -20 to -40.....
and now it's safely in my driveway. Whew!
Following a quick wash and look over I am thrilled with the condition, the body is excellent with only one tiny scratch, The interior is almost perfect, the top is good with the window needing a cleaning. It runs very well, lots of pep, temp stayed constant over a 25 mile city drive, and handles well.
The next week will see a few mods including LHD Trophy Headlamps, Provincial and Federal safety tests and the local emissions check.
I am really looking forward to getting it on the road, having some fun with it and retiring my tired old TR-7!

Cheers,
Rich :D

I hope it turns heads as well as it did in the UK back in 95/96 when we first got ours - driving around town hood down one constantly got little boys saying 'nice car mister' and one occasion at traffic lights a bus driver leaned out of his cab to tell me he thought it was a grand looking car! I even got stopped by the law who admitted it was only because he wanted to have a look !!Image

Rich

It probably passed my 1995 MGF going in the opposite direction from Vancouver heading East , as it arrived in Toronto on the train today!!!

The first 2 MGF's to pass each other in Canada (without drivers!!)

Enjoy it!!

That's classic John! Maybe next time we pass we can give each other a wave.

So far everyone who has seen the car has been very impressed. Today two people called it a Spider.
Must be the Pininfarina influence!
My brother-in-law was so excited he could hardly stand it. Maybe the enthusiasm will give him incentive
to drag his 73 911E out of his garage after a 15 year hibernation.

Cheers,
Rich

Rich / Terreneuve:

Glad to see your cars have arrived.

I guess that makes nine in Canada so far that we know of? I brought three red ones in last Sept, and four more last month (white, purple, green & grey).

Here is my demo now sporting a new glass window. Big improvement - merging into traffic at an angle was quite challenging with the old cloudy plastic window.

Regards,

Brad

Nice to hear from you Brad.
I think that we have the whole country covered now, if a bit sparsely!
I hope your venture is successful. The more the merrier!

Cheers,
Rich
