Oldie Newbie from the Isle of Wight
Hello, I'm Barrie and have just acquired my second MG, a 2000 MGF Wedgewood SE with 87,000 on the clock. I bought it from a chap in Cowes who is having difficulty getting in and out of the car, well, he is in his 80's, but doesn't look it. My first MG was a 1937 ZA, which I had for several years in the 1960s. It expired with a rusted chassis, after the sunroof drain had cascaded water over it since it left the factory!
I'm looking forward to fettling my acquisition for the summer and enjoying open-top motoring again. It should be good fun after my everyday car, a Peugeot Partner, which is good to drive and corners very well, but isn't endowed with much horsepower. I shall have to be careful though, my daughter-in-law calls me "The Geriatric Boy-Racer", and I can't afford to lose my licence after all these years.
Best wishes,
Barrie

Re: Oldie Newbie from the Isle of Wight
My memory has been playing tricks with me. The MGF is, in fact, my third MG. In the early '70s we had a 1960 Midget, Registered 7253MG. I bought it from a colleague and it was used mainly by my wife. She finally persuaded me to replace it when it broke down three times on one journey. She rang me and I called out the RAC for her, from her description I thought the condenser was at fault. This I suggested to the RAC whose staff tried three different tacks fixing it, all of which seemed to fail after 25 miles or so. She finally abandoned it and came home by train. The following day I went to get the car, replaced the condenser and drove home with no problem. My wife however had lost all confidence in the car, so we bought her another and exchanged the MG for a Sailing dinghy, which we had for 30 years.

Indeed, there are two that I know of in Shanklin, where I live. The Sunday before last, when I was on an afternoon run with the Vectis Historic Vehicle Club, I met a socialising group, with an F a TF and a B. I also understand that there is an Island MG Club, must look into it.

In my second post, I wrote:

A check with the DVLA suggests that the car is no more, as the Registration Number now graces a 1973 MGB.
