Hi to all here - a popped K-Series to be an EV

Post by Dev255 » Mon Jul 08, 2019 11:38 pm

Hi everyone,

I have been taking a look through the forum and love the community feel.

I have come into possession of a 2001 1796cc MGF last year. I bought this as a little run around while I re-built my Vauxhall Vectra engine, only to find that these cars are awesome fun. This little car sparked up some memories of wanting to modify my first car (Austin Maestro 1.3) to look like the 2.0L Turbo version.

Unfortunately, after passing its MOT and driving around for 2 months, I believe the pistons had a disagreement with the valves mid acceleration.

Not to worry though, this has become project car number 2, where I will be converting it to electric, although not a conventional single motor. Instead, I plan to fit my own design of power unit in (with 24 load sharing motors) utilising the existing gearbox.

Please let me know your thoughts on an electric MGF or whether you would prefer a K-Series popping back in. Don't worry though, everything else will remain as standard, no underbody lights or anything, I'm past all that now ;)

I will be making videos on this throughout the build and am happy to put extra info and pictures on here if you wish.

Here is the YouTube link of the power unit concept for my MGF https://youtu.be/QP8K7zrCqK4, I couldn't get the to work for some reason.

Very interesting concept Neil, I wish you every success with it. I shall watch your progress with interest.

Hi and welcome to the forum

A polish chap swap the ICE out for a FLT motor but the story faded out.

I have been playing with an idea to add metro drive shafts and gearbox to the front subframe coupled with electric motor but that wont be for a while.

I look foward to hearing updates of your project.

Hi, thank you, I have a website that I am covering it on and will put pictures and video links on here too.

I have mostly finished designing the Power Unit and will be making that first, so I'll put some pictures on here for that.

Would it be best to start a new feed on here, and is it ok to put my website address on here too? I couldn't see anywhere in the rules about not linking to my own site.

Thank you.

You can do a separate build thread.

All decent website links are always welcome.

Thank you,

My website is www.dev255.uk, that links to my videos and a blog, although I will share it all here in another thread especially for MGF owners. (may even have extra content here as I don't wish to pull anyone away).

Hope you will enjoy watching my ups and downs
