Nearly new F owner!

Post by jesamel » Thu Aug 20, 2020 10:04 pm

Hello everyone! Just joined the forum and hope to pick lots of brains about our 1998 MGF 1.8 MPi in Amaranth.
My mum bought the car in 2014 with a TF front on it. She didn’t realise and just loved it the way it was, but I always promised myself that if I ever had the chance I’d change the front end back to an original F. My wife and I were lucky enough to be given the car last September and I immediately set about researching how to swap the fronts over and started sourcing the parts. With parts mainly from eBay and a couple from the MGF Centre in Wolverhampton I’m pleased to say we’ve just finished converting it back. The actual process was fairly straightforward and now we don’t need to keep explaining how our TF is really an F with the wrong front on it! Oh, and it’s brilliant fun to drive...

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Personally I prefer the look of the mk1 F to other models but prefer the way the TF drives so have early TF subframes on my mk1 (with mk2 indicators) and MY2005 suspension.

Do you have any photos of the project.

Thank you and hello!
Yes, love the look of the Mk1 best so have tried to keep it as original as possible. Never driven a TF so can‘t comment on how they drive. Swapping subframes over sounds like a lot of work!
Some pics above for you. Image
