Aussie Electric MGF Conversion

Hi Everyone,

I'm from Australia (Geelong Victoria), I have owned my MG-F since new in 1999, back in 2015 the motor died and I decided instead of sending it to scrap yard or selling with a blown motor I would try to convert to 100% electric, lucky I found a local group of EV enthusiasts who helped me with advise and help, I did not have any engineering or electrical background before diving into this project, but happy to report my MG has couple thousand KM's on it now as Electric and it drives amazing well... very zippy

Battery: Nissan Leaf battery pack, salvaged from Japan wreck
Motor: Siemens Azure AC induction 3 Phase, capable of 150kw, 300Nm torque

I followed the progress of your build on your website with great interest. It is a great conversion.
Do you have any range / performance details and an idea of what it cost, please?

As the owner of both an MGF & ZSEV, I find the whole subject fascinating.

For anybody else interested there is an excellent series of videos on YouTube by Zero EV on the conversion of an MX5. The technical knowledge of these young guys is mind boggling to me!
Also there is a forum on DIY conversions https://www.diyelectriccar.com/forums/ with some fascinating stories.

As you know from discussions on https://www.the-t-bar.com/forum/ev-conversions I have an interest in doing a hybrid conversion on my MGF.

I have been watching Vintage Voltage on Quest, it's fascinating to the extent that I put down the laptop to watch. They have covered so many clever little touches I would never have thought of.

Range 100+ km's, but depends on how I drive I was only able to squeeze 20kWh of Nissan Leaf modules into MG, without going over weight restraints, but in future it will be easy to replace battery with more energy dense cells, like Tesla cells or the like, happy to wait. I don't have 0-100km performance details yet... but judging from passenger face reactions when I take them for a spin I'd say the performance is impressive. Conversion cost $15k AUD. I believe future MGF / MGTF EV conversions could be done cheaper than that now with more EV components to pick from in second-hand market.
