Finally got an mgf

Post by RicknKim » Wed Sep 22, 2021 6:12 pm

Hi all. I just bought a bit of a wreck with an mg badge so thought I'd pop in and say hello.
I'll upload an image when I can figure out how.

It's a great little car that I always promised myself. Is a 1999, 1.8ltr and although it's going to need some work to make it right, it came with an 11 month MOT and a BRG hardtop.
I'm already in love.

Hi Nigel, Thanks for the welcome.
I'm looking forward to getting out and about once I sort the smell of petrol in the cockpit.

Nice silver one, not very wreck-ish by the looks, front bumper needs some love, apparently had some damage there. HG done?
Cheers!

Not sure if the head gasket has been done or not tbh. He said it was but there's nothing in the paperwork.
List of jobs to do so far.
Investigate origin of fuel smell in cabin.
Investigate reason for drivers door lock choosing when it wants to work.
Investigate squeeks and clunks from underneath when I hit any kind of bump.
And if filler was worth money, I'd be rich instead of Rick.

Fuel smell is usually fuel lines near the fuel pump, remove engine cover under the sound dampening behind the seats, it's under the round cover.

Try new batteries for the remote first, if that doesn't work do a little forum search, there's a plethora of probs and fixes.

After so many years I suggest you look at dampers, rubbers etc.
Cheers!

Hi Barbour, Talkingcars.
Thanks for the welcome and advice.
I'm not much of a mechanic I'm afraid so it's likely I'll take it to an expert to sort any problems, but will have to wait for a while as my Transit just failed its MOT and it's going to leave me a bit short. On the bright side, the weather up here has been great so I'm concentrating on driving it. I've been grinning all week.
