Hi all, new TF160 owner

Post by Rajie » Sun Aug 06, 2023 11:58 pm

Hello! Bought a shiny TF160 a month ago from a guy who runs a cool YouTube channel. Having an absolute blast so far.

This is a video he did on the exact car I bought off him:

Been keen on getting one for a good number of years now, I lived in Australia until recently so it was quite difficult to find a good example out there. Soon as I came back to the UK I was on Marketplace and bang - tons of MGF's and TF's available (at least comparatively)

Only issue I had with the car was the coolant tank had split and was spitting coolant at the engine, which steamed up and of course made me empty into my pants, however all was good after a chat with Rob the YouTuber who kindly sent me a new coolant tank. Once installed, touch wood no issues, however I have felt like the car might be losing coolant (the level in the tank slowly goes down), so I'll take it to a local specialist in Windsor for a checkup.

The other issue I have (and as mentioned by a commentor on the video), is the roof lining for the hardtop is starting sag, so I need to re-do that at some stage.

Other than that, just having a great time driving the car - it's better than I expected, and there's just such an interesting charm about these 'old' cars you don't get with new ones that's always hard to describe.

Looking forward to changing out the ECU and eventually upgrading the exhaust system :thumbsu:

Who says the car isn't practical?

Hey Geoff. No I didn't! Is this something that is a general must do? Have a few long drives coming up, praying!

It is worth fitting a coolant alarm. The type i have on both my TFs uses a sensor that fits on the existing coolant tank which saves replacing it.
