I needed a car it was in budget so....
Hi All
Just brought myself an mgf p reg cof red (nice) in reasonable nick, with loads of history hg done 3000 miles ago for a grand. I needed a car, I had a grand it was a hot day, it was sitting there all sad and lonely so I gave it a home. My mgf and me come from Felixstowe on the suffolk coast so any tips to prevent that sea air and to stop the slow spread of rust will be appreciated.
I am expecting to find a few problems along the way, lack of cooling fan activation and hood issues are already showing themselves, but I look forward to a summer with the top down. Will check in later but first must find out why fans dont turn with sensor out (fuses ok relay ok fans turn with a direct feed)

Hi,
The hood is tatty with a few too many marks. Can they be recovered? Also rear window is very opaque. Need a hood cover and storm cover. Apart from that it is fine.

Hi and welcome, Skiddaw,
there is a forum member here trying to sell a completely new hood with rear window, yet it's the fabric only and has to be fixed to your existing frame. This is kind of a pita, but can be managed. And might be a bargain solution if your hood framework is still in good working order.
As to the rust issues, I'd suggest that you put her on a lift and brush off all loose rust from all parts using a steel brush and then conservate the status quo with anti rust oil. That should do the trick for the next couple of years, even under seaside conditions.
Which fan do you mean, engine bay or radiator?
Cheers

Thanks for your replies,
Mykel. I look at that hood, the frame is fine so that would work if I get my needle and thread out. I am worried that the rad and engine bay fans are not cutting in. I have checked the fuses and relay all ok. If I short the two feed sockets on the relay the fans cut in, if I take the temP sensor off the engine the fans do not cut in as I expect them to. All temps and levels ok.

Hello and welcome. Don't worry too much about the salt air and rust, just get out there and enjoy the Suffolk coast with the top down. Nice to see another "almost local to me" member. I am up the coast a little further at Lowestoft. Enjoy.
