Post by NoseyParker » Sun Jun 02, 2013 7:37 pm

Three cars made it across the Chanel and through into Belgium. The weather was great and once again the company superb! Thank you to stan and Jane and John and Trish for their company this weekend. If you have any pictures from the weekend put them up here, I will get mine up in the next couple of days......

The only major element of an MGCC trip not covered so far is the eating :)
So clickable, the memorable set menu at Flanders Lodge, giant hot scotch eggs

Dinner in Ypres in the Grote Markt opposite the Cloth Hall

It was all excellent, plus great local beers.

The rest of mine are here.

Looks like you had a great trip, I found a trip Ypres so humbling and thought provoking.

To realise that the cloth hall was the only building left standing in the town, Tyne Cott cemetary so peaceful and the most thought provoking for me and the Menin gate with every single name inscribed on it under their respective regiments. I have two relatives names inscribed on the gate, up until I visited they were just names on the family tree, somehow after the visit they felt so much more real?

I would urge anyone who is in the area, whether you have family links or not, to visit.
Cheers,
Martin

Looks like an interesting trip - well done Thames valley !

We're thinking of a French Trip for 2014 in the South East Region now we've conquered our fear of the water by going to the Isle of Wight.

Thanks tim, it was fantastic, possibly too short for everything you can see and do! Maybe we could combine things next year? I still have fear of water... Just go underneath it now!
