Autumn Weekend Oxfordshire

Not to be outdone by our Wensleydale weekend last Autumn, this years weekend away in Oxfordshire was blessed with identical wall to wall sunshine for all three days and the chance to clock up over 300 miles of top down motoring.
For those who could make a morning meet on the Friday we got together at B & Q at Boston before starting our trip down to Oxfordshire via a route that did not involve any motorways or major roads and it was great to see some fabulous views and lovely villages on the way through. After 1 1/2 hours it was time to stop for lunch at the Rose and Crown at Tilton on the Hill. Next stop was bang on time at 3pm for tea at the Hook Norton Brewery Visitor Centre where we met up with some of the others on the weekend from further afield. Last stop was at Deddington where everyone settled into their rooms ready for the evening drink and meal. Saturday morning dawned bright and clear with beautiful sunshine and everyone enjoyed a stroll around the fascinating Farmers Market and have a chat with some of the locals. Then it was time start our day out which featured Warwick Castle, Blenheim Palace and Bletchley Park. Day out done and dusted and it was time for cream teas and other refreshments back at Deddington. Dinner over and it was time for the famous Lincs MGF Register after-dinner games. It was a hard fought battle in the Yes/No game with several hanging on bravely for some time but Len was the last one standing and therefore claimed the coveted prize of the yard of Jaffa Cakes. The hotel set us up well in the morning with another great breakfast and we were all able to wish Clara a happy 50th birthday before some headed off home and others took a diversion on the way back to Boston to the Northampton and Lamport Railway where there was a Railway at War event taking place. This was based in the 1940's and had people in period dress as well as Home Guard officers and some great 40's music. Thanks to everyone who came along and made it such a memorable weekend of great company, good food and of course a million laughs!! The finishing touch was that the Saturday night raffle raised £50 for our chosen charity Cancer Research UK. Thank you all for bringing along such a brilliant selection of prizes.
