HELP IDENTIFIYING HARD TOP

Post by cath's mg » Sat Feb 15, 2014 5:04 pm

This is the hard top I managed to save from the breakers, it a different style from the one we have on Cath's car and also a lot lighter.
Can anyone tell me anything about it please.

There is also the sticker below. I can not make out the printed writing but have shown what is written in pen

It has the MG decal stickers which as far as I have been able to find out are no longer available

also has the upgraded clips

Although I have not weighed it, it does seem to be a fair bit lighter than the top on Cath's car

It's a hard top with a leather interior.

That looks pretty smart actually. Swap 'em!

It would really suit your car Cath. That is a nice looking hardtop.

looks like the Heritage hardtop - very smart but was not a Rover part. See http://www.bmh-ltd.com/hardtop.htm

Makes sense as the top on the car now doesn't have this, and has MG Rover stickers under the Head Lining

I guess this detail may act as some sort or rain channel?

That was one pricey piece of kit!!

Rain channel or to add rigidity. Rain channel more likely. Seriously nice though.

I much prefer the heritage hardtop to the standard. Are you sure the stickers are NLA? I bought a set just before last winter when I had my hardtop resprayed.

The rain channels mean you don't get as much water on you when you open the door!

I contacted British Motor Heritage a few months ago, was told they were no longer available and to try Mike Satur, they didn't know what I was talking about.
Do you know who you spoke to there?

Definitely the heritage hard top- same as what's fitted to my car Gary. The rain channels do a good job, my feeling is that they suit the More angular TF, those rain channels line up with the lines on the boot quite nicely.

A really good find though mate :thumbsu:

Hi Mate, not sure what im going to do with it yet. Cath is thinking about keeping it for her car :? .
If she don't want it ill offer it up on here for what I paid for it (£225), if she wants it ill get it sprayed and try and sell the Rover one

"Krafthaus" shows that it was made by K & H Assemblies of Tamworth (now closed) and Marketed by BMH. They made a variety of MG Hardtops including the RV8.
Original MGR Black Only Hardtops had the plain roof until MY 2000 when they introduced the colour matched K&H HardTop with the shaped roof as an option.
