Novice Trackday anyone?

Post by ColinP » Tue Jul 15, 2014 7:24 pm

At yesterdays meet at The Plough and having listened to peoples basic requirements for a track day, I think I have found something of interest...
Firstly, the criteria:
Full Day and Sessioned
Novice only
Option for up to 3 extra drivers per car.
Weekends preferred

Secondly, the best fitting offering I have found so far:
Via msvtrackdays.com is Snetterton 17th August (Sunday), basic cost is £189 for the full day.
It seems possible to book upto 4 additional drivers.

I still need to find out full requirements for Snetterton.
I.e Can we use our MG's without a roll cage? What is the helmet spec? etc.

If there is sufficient interest and can use my car as is, I will be booking this weekend.

Please advise whether you are interested soonest 8-)

Thanks

Unfortunately we're away on holiday on the 17th and won't be able to make it. :thumbsd: Be interested in knowing helmet/roll cage requirements though...

Well I think you might know my thoughts on this sort of thing :thumbsu:

It is indeed a good solution but it is also interesting to take part with other makes, just out of sheer interest. Colin and I had a great time at the track taster at North Weald. We were passengers in a Mk1 Elise and a track day prepped MX-5. There was a pristine VX220 turbo present too. A brilliant day out.

MGs on Track will be cheaper too!

Your road car will not require a roll cage - fitting one is entirely up to you. Mk1 X-power roll hoops are what I have on my MGF (a cage is fitted to Project Shed of course).

Here's the FAQ that I think I wrote for the site a few years ago (!):
MGs on Track FAQ wrote: The only current requirement for every track day is a helmet conforming to BS6658 Type A or Snell SA2000. These can often be hired on the day but please check the individual event information in advance.
Whilst the above helmet standards are currently acceptable for our track days, the latest Motor Sports Association (MSA) standard for helmets excludes 'BS6685 Type A' and notes that 'Snell SA2000' may be withdrawn from 01/01/15. We are under increasing pressure from many circuits to change our helmet standard to conform to the latest MSA standards and recommend anyone buying a new helmet to get a Snell SA2005 or SA2010. There are many companies that will sell you a helmet (e.g. Demon Tweeks, Grand Prix Racewear, etc.).
Our MGs on Track helmets conform to Snell SA2005

It is also compulsory to have both your arms and legs fully covered by your clothing. Other 'safety' clothing and equipment are optional, although many circuits require you to cover your arms. If you want the full Michael Schumacher battle dress - no problem!

Having a AFFF fire extinguisher - ideally with a capacity of 1.5litres - securely fastened in the car and within reach of the driver is a good idea, but not compulsory.
