Estimate for this body repair?

Post by beefio » Wed Aug 27, 2014 4:43 pm

Hi all

I've seen the following F that I really like the look of...

The owner says there is one minor spot of bubbling by the head light as you can in the following picture...

How much do you think I would be looking at to put it right?

Cheers :thumbsu:

My tame bodywork guy would charge about 150 quid. but you need to think about 200+ per panel

The Gum tree link says its no longer available. I can guarantee I could get it done for under £150 perhaps even under the £100

you could get lucky and find a complete second hand panel in good order and in the same colour- circa £40-£50ish

Bilstein Shocks, Z&F Remap, B&G Coolant Alarm, Glass Rear Screen, Braided Hoses, Bling-free at the moment...but that'll probably change

The fella keeps relisting it, I imagine so that it stays at the top of the listings...

He said he wants £1,200, if I could get the paint repaired for £100 and buy it for £1,100 then that seems about right to me...

What do you think?

Personally I would make a cheeky offer of around £950 with lots of sucking of teeth noises first of all. See how far you get with that. Chuck a replacement wing on and have fun.

I agree with Ken, I wouldn't pay more than a grand.

I would want to see it up on a lift first to see if the subframes etc. are in the same condition. Wing not cared for, the rest of the car similiarly treated.

Hi Geoff

It's a good point...but think I'm gunna struggle to get it on a lift.

Do you think I'm best off avoiding a car if the body work shows signs of rust, as the subframe etc may well have the same issue?

It may not be so problematic. the things don't always necessarily equate to a rubbish or potentially grotty car. My silver F had bubbling in a similar area but all else was fine. Having a look underneath is not a bad idea with anything, but a good torch and some scrabbling around is always a bit of fun. Well, was I guess

The overall condition of the car is what you need to check. I would not reject such a car out of hand but an adjusted price is paramount. My cars cost me no more than £400 but none were perfect obviously. Haggling is fun.

Haha...I took your advice and offered him £950...he said "**** off"... :o

That's nice isn't it...

He's obviously a completely prick so maybe that's done me a favour and saved me some agro!

The search continues...

and I'd have wished him good luck with the sale, or similar.

Better cars out there mate, just a matter of waiting.
