Long Time MG fan - now trying to own one
Almost 40 years since I drooled over a MGB GT in Cape Town, promising myself I'd one day own a little MG 2-seater.
So today I put in a bid for an MG TF on eBay and with a couple of hours to go (and no bidding frenzy - yet) I could, this time tomorrow, be a MG owner.
Should I not win that auction, I'll look elsewhere, but I am pretty keen to get one now.
One (possibly stupid) question right now... does one need to be a MG owner to join the MG Car Club - or can one just be a "drooler" like me, and still become a member?

yes, anyone can become a MGCC MG Car Club member and you don't have to own one to join

Being a MG Car Club member prior to owning a car can be an advantage as you get the potential of cheaper car insurance from the start through companies like Peter Best through your membership.
You can join via http://www.mgcc.co.uk/joinrenew/ or by contacting Liz at Kimber House by phone 01235 849734
(I believe Kimber House will be closed today or at least be short staffed as they spent the weekend at the Classic Car show at the NEC)
Just remember to register your car with us and Kimber House once you get it so you get the full benefits of membership.

Hi
Welcome to the MG Car Clubs MGF Register,,, and welcome to the Herts & North London Section of it.
Personally i wouldn't be in a hurry to buy a car as with winter upon us car prices drop and it becomes a buyers market and you can see many cars and you will be able to pick up a great car at a bargain price.I would also look at trying to buy a car that has been owned by an enthusiast as this will have been looked after and cherished. If you are on Facebook they're are many cars being sold on the main MGF related Facebook pages.
Whilst you are looking for a car you would still be very welcome to join us at our regular monthly meets. We are a very friendly bunch and could offer you plenty of advice on what to look for when buying a car, maintaining it , personalizing it and getting the most out of it.
Anymore help or advice please ask ,, Hope to see you in the near future.
Good luck with buying a car

Re: Long Time MG fan - now trying to own one
Well, I am now a MG Owner - after putting in a cheeky low bid on a car on eBay, I ended up winning the auction - bit of a surprise as the car looks very clean and I expected bidding to be a bit more brisk. 2002 MG TF Platinum Silver.
Haven't seen the car in person yet, but had it loaded up on a transporter from Lincoln and taken to MG Car Club Workshops in Swavesey so Ian can take a look at it and get it through MOT. Then we'll see what else needs doing (if anything - previous owner tells me it's in pretty good nick.
Trust I'll be on the forum looking for advice and help if and when necessary.

Nice looking car there
But just a note, where you are having the car taken to is the home of the MG Owners Club not the MG Car Club associated with the MGF Register.

They are run as a business, whereas we are a Club. So do not confuse the two when joining "The MG Car Club".Keith Williams wrote:Nice looking car there

You are in a very good position in the Herts region so welcome and enjoy your new car.

Re: Long Time MG fan - now trying to own one
That will be "Starlight Silver", different from the MGF "Platinum Silver".

It maybe Platinum silver metallic as 1507 were produced in this colour with the paint code MNX.
If you check the 3 letter paint code on the vin plate under the bonnet it will tell you what it is ... Starlight silver is MBB.
