Bass, Treble, CarPuters, adding an after market alarm. It's all in here.

Weak sound/power to Right side front speakers?

Post by Plezier » Wed Mar 26, 2014 2:36 pm

The replacement stereo head unit arrived this morning. It's a Sony CDX S-100 with Tune tray to take an Ipod.

Got it in and found that the right hand door speakers are only just working. So connected the CD43 MG unit back up and it's the same................ Got door card off and cannot find anything obviously wrong or visibly damaged so any ideas why this should be?

The rear right T-bar speaker works fine ans do all the left hand channels and speakers.

Dammit looks like this Sony does not use the iPod mini I bought..................................... dammit.

Could try running a cable from the straight from the back of the stereo straight to the speaker (correct connections obviously) if it improves probably a dodgy wire

Got the Sony unit fitted into "Blue 33" the Mpi now where it was the left channel with virtually no sound. Took off the door card and found that some oen had connected the tweeter tot eh wrong terminal. Now works fine. So at least one of the F's now has a working stereo sytem fitted.

Am currntly trying to get a woring stereo into "Elsie" the VVC. Everythign was ripped out when she arrived. No speakers and no ISO Connectors. Brought a JVC head unit yesterday and have managed to connect power up but unless I remove the door speaker and connect direct the the units output wire no sound. It seem they have chopped or damaged the door speaker wires some how. Am going to try wiring direct with some std speaker wire and see if I get any sound then if that works run wires properly and hopefully get it sorted.

Here's something that may, or may not, be of use to you......

Standard ISO wiring diagram...
Image

Specific to the MGF (or at least the 1999 MK2)
pin 4 = 12v constant = purple - not yellow
pin 6 = dash light = red black - not orange
pin 7 = switched 12v = green white - not red

And the standard pin-out arrangement for ISO radio plugs (probably ignore plug C as that is normally found on OEM headunits only)...

Hope they are of some use.

Thank you,

Am pleased to say after several hours stripping back and re-wiring bits we now have working stereos in BOTH MGF's. Today is was "Elsie" the green VVC who got a new JVC head unit and the Edge door speakers fitted. At first we had no sound to the passenger door the first speaker fitted which proved to be a poor connection in a new crimped spade terminal. Had to tighten up the new connections for the drivers side that came with the speakers as until that had not sound for that speaker. It's been a day of frustration what with these issues and dodging heavy showers, car has no cover to work under. Can now rest a bit until the next bit ot renewal, replacing and rectification of someones bodge ups.

The information on here and over on .Org has been most helpful and saved me havign to pay to get it sorted.
