Strange Poor AM Reception Issue

I have read the posts about checking the antenna, but it looks like the previous owner had a replacement fitted, and the connectors look good and clean. The strange part of this issue is thsat the problem occurs on Talk sport but not Radio 5 live (I am a sports news nut). The problem also disappears when I get to work...Warwick, its not heat related because when I leave work, the channel is clear but gets bad again as I go along. Both channels good on my old car, I am using the original HU in a 2001 MGF. Might just be case of trying a different HU.
