What are peoples recent experiences with in car DAB? Signal strength should be a lot better that it was 12 months ago, but do we need to install a DAB/FM splitter or are the supplied windscreen antennae ant good

I've got a JVC DAB head unit in my 'F', went to Brooklands (MG Era) a few weeks ago & had good DAB signal up & back (Plymouth). :thumbsu:

My son has just put a JVC DAB unit in his TF.

Signal not good up around Dartmoor or the hills of Cornwall.

We both have boot lid mag mount DAB aerials - dont bother with the windscreen aerials unless your in a VERY strong reception area.

Yes very, comes with plenty of cable to feed it through :thumbsu:

Have to dash out for the rest of the day, will post a link to the mag mounts we've installed later.

This is the mag mounts used on both our cars

http://www.dabonwheels.co.uk/Kinetic_Ma ... erial.html

Really straight forward, positioned ours in the middle of the boot between the vents, cable fed into the boot via the vent and into the rear shelf area (used the main cable grommet, & into the centre console to the head unit - really easy.

DAB a few years ago when I had one was rubbish, you say they are better now ?

Be careful, I have a similar aerial for the CB radio we use when travelling together in groups, it will mark the paint so put a soft cloth underneath the mag mount. It's easy enough to run the cable through the o/s panels to keep it nice and tidy.

I have DAB in my ZS and use the OE ariel with a splitter, works great in the south east but here in Wales (holidaying for a week) reception was okay in south Wales but non exsistant in mid and north Wales.

I've got the JVC unit with the stick on windscreen aerial - I find it works well, but then I am in the South East! One thing I have found is that it is much better at switching to FM when the DAB signal does drop, than the standard unit in my company provided BMW!

And DAB is supposed to be the future ?

It doesn't sound too convincing.

When I had DAB in the F I found there was little coverage outside the south east and none in Europe at all.

Driving around the motorway network in the UK, reception is pretty good - it's when you go off to explore country roads etc that it can get a bit patchy!

Having just driven through France can confirm that there is still no DAB at all there!
