evening all.

im slowly working through the faults on my '96 VVC, and one of them is the key fob.

It came with two, one of which works and one doesn't. I've changed the battery, still inop.

Can these be fixed? or replacements bought?

cheers, Taff

It may be that the fob has got out of sync so I'd try it multipule times, however it could be worse, could be dry solder joints which require re-soldering.

If it is kuput a new or used one will need programming to your alarm ECU.

Take it apart & remove the battery then remove the printed circuit from the plastic cover. I recently had a similar problem with mine and it turned out to be a dry joint on one of the microswitches, as well as a failed joint on the battery carrier. Before you put it back into the plastic fob, replace the battery and press the unlock/lock buttons several times until the car recognises the fob. Hopefully all will then be OK. If you do buy another fob remember that BOTH will have to be coded at the same time on the Testbook.

Thanks RR, I'll try that. I just went out to try something else and discovered that neither of the keys I have fit the drivers door lock! The both work fine in the boot and the ignition but will only go halfway into the door lock.

Got to love this car!

I expect that to be due to lack of use, try some WD40 in the door lock.

Also do the fuel cap and glove box locks work?

WD 40 did the trick :-)

all locks now working off both keys, just need to pull that goosed fob apart now

we are getting there folks!
