Re: Mgf donor car: building an MG Allegro VVC!
Not much left of sheddy 1970s BL stuff on the roads any more. A real shame IMO - they were certainly cars of "character"!
Aparently Lotus 501 wheels fit straight onto the Princess Hubs -
So imagine that black Princess on those wheels, with a subtle modern engine upgrade... hmmm...
Must stop thinking about that!
Actually, I also want a wedgy Lotus in my life. And I rather like TR7 DHCs. I think I'm showing my age...

Yeah I have heard the lotus wheels fit, eBay just alerted me the price for the princess was dropped!

I know - by a grand! So tempting... but I'd rather not face the Princess Owners Club death squad.
Re: Mgf donor car: building an MG Allegro VVC!
Mmmm offer them another grand less then put some dirty great v8 in it with the money saved!

The volvo B844S looks to be a nice compact unit. In fact, so compact that I wonder whether it could be shoe-horned into an MGF?
Should be a good fit in a Princess

Narrow angle Vee, compact design... and very rare it seems. This on in Demark has a cracked casting, and they're still asking for £5k! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VOLVO-XC90-en ... SwvUlWthda
May be not then

Today was Allegro moving day, its going to a friends while I move house. It will then be going into a garage and out of the weather
Made an A frame that bolts to the bottom of the subframe.
All hooked up.
Hmm it does sit nice on those wheels.

Nice A-frame! And nice wheels!
Re: Mgf donor car: building an MG Allegro VVC!
They seem to fit well those, they are just my track / moving about wheels.
My other set are newly refub'd gulf orange and polished lips

Lotus Exige flywheel turned up today, its gonna rev like a motorbike
Annoyingly moving house will take up all my free time for about the next month
Should have a nice dry garage to work in afterwards though

Re: Mgf donor car: building an MG Allegro VVC!
Wow! Not a lot of metal on that: how much does it weigh? The timing teeth pattern looks a bit odd? Probably fine - just not used to looking at a flywheel quite that light!
Re: Mgf donor car: building an MG Allegro VVC!
Its one of these https://www.eliseparts.com/products/sho ... -flywheel/
Weight is 3.6kg according to my scales. Have been told of one running in a vvc mgf and I have checked the timing teeth. They are a slightly different design but the pattern is the same as stock. The sensor is only a magnet so as long as the metal is missing in the correct place

Re: Mgf donor car: building an MG Allegro VVC!
3.6kg? That's pretty good! Are you getting it dynamically balanced?
I weighed the one I have - can't remember what it was now, so will probably now re-weigh it!

Re: Mgf donor car: building an MG Allegro VVC!
Nope lol, just bolt on and hope
According to Eliseparts it should just go on.
"Stepped central "spigot" for accurate centralisation (just one thousandth of an inch oversize can put the flywheel out of balance)"
We'll see!

Re: Mgf donor car: building an MG Allegro VVC!
To be honest, my daily has a lightened flywheel, and I didn't get that balanced either! But the DVA tuned engine I am planning will probably be fully balanced by Vibration Free before assembly.
Re: Mgf donor car: building an MG Allegro VVC!
Glad that it worked ok on yours
I'm expecting vibrations though, no rubber in my subframe mounts!

They will be heated too (by the sun)
Well here are another couple of pictures of the progress on the Allgero bodied Corvette.
Amazing.
I dont think mine will ever look that good, on a better note though my Protech front shocks are on the way!
