Brief continental museum tour

Post by mgtfnut » Wed May 18, 2016 5:29 pm

I'm thinking of going to re-visit the museum at Speyer later in the year, take in a little of the city and perhaps the Schlumpf as well.

May take 4/5/6 days, but as no one in S Wales can make it this year, is there anyone out there want to keep me company?
I'm not organising anything, as I'll probably go anyway  , but it's nice to have company/ comfort factor etc.

Sounds like a lovely trip! Sadly too many committments at the moment, but I definitely want to do another road trip in the F! It's been far too long since the last one. :(

Hi Jerry,

Sounds great. Jacquie & I fancied the idea. However I can only see us meeting up at the museum. Our route from Jersey (via St. Malo) will be completely different from yours. Seems daft to ferry across to Poole or Portsmouth and drive up to Dover to cross back into France. Condor Ferries are pretty pricey these days.

Eric, later in the autumn after our school holidays, but before it becomes too wintery ;)

Bill, if you fancy it, why not meet at the museum, or the Intercity Hotel in Speyer where I plan to stay for a couple of nights.

I'm pretty busy with motorsport things at the moment, but I've got a plan - just need to get some time to sort my diary

Got myself more sorted this year.
MoT last week, motorsport is a bit more organised early in the year now, so I've just got to decide on a date between events somehow.

I just need some advice on school holidays, major events etc which might affect my little trip. I'm planning on about five days from an early Eurotunnel start.

Is Monday a bad day to get to Speyer via the northern leg around Brussels just before lunch time? Easter gets in the way, would this be a problem?
I'm trying to avoid my mistakes when I went via the Stelvio to Lake Garda in 2014 on my own - Stelvio/Sunday/bike race :thumbsd: , not on my radar :x

Best of luck with the trip Jerry, I remember happier times when we all went there to celebrate the MG European event.

All booked up - Eurotunnel early Sunday 25th June and straight to Speyer/Spires - museum on Monday.
Tuesday Schlumpf collection and on to Nancy.
Wednesday back to Calais via Reims, and hopefully home in one go!

It's apt as it's 10 years since the MG IEOY at Speyer, and I've found all my old stuff including rally plate

The Speyer museum was a great visit. Was it really 10 years since that happened? Wow!

Off tomorrow after a last minute hiatus with fitting NOS headlight units - now aligned at my local test garage

Got myself a new satnav as well, remembered to turn off speed/camera warnings !, as my old one wasn't updated foolishly when I went over the Stelvio three years ago and I got temporarily semi lost with road/ number changes around Reims

Hope to take lots of pics to refresh the memories of ten years ago.
