Mud Flaps?? Any Point??
I have Mud Flaps on the front and rear and I don't really like the look of them on the car, you sometimes hear stories that they can do more harm than good.
Does the MGF really need them, and can you get a build up of crud which becomes rust behind them?
Thanks.

A bit like "Marmite", you either like 'em or you don't. Not sure whether they do again good. My car is 22yrs old and has never had them and after 120K miles hasn't suffered from stone chips.

Re: Mud Flaps?? Any Point??
I was not so concerned about stone chips, appreciate you could maybe get them, it was holding in damp and dirt behind them that was a concern.
I take your point about Marmite, some will love them and some won't.

If they're oem they won't really trap stuff like the aftermarket generic ones will, the will reduce the amount of stone chip around the side intakes.Androlyn wrote:I was not so concerned about stone chips, appreciate you could maybe get them, it was holding in damp and dirt behind them that was a concern.

Taken front and back off, looks better to me and exposed some crud etc so can clean the areas up.

Mine didn't have them so I brought both front and rear original ones to fit. Painted area behind before fitting and remove them yearly to clean behind.
I guess some like them some don't

yes very true, life would be boring if we did all like exactly the same thing.hammond wrote:Mine didn't have them so I brought both front and rear original ones to fit. Painted area behind before fitting and remove them yearly to clean behind.

Good job lots of people don't like the MGF, means they are cheap enough and around for me to enjoy

I agree: they will reduce stone chipping and risk of corrosion, but I don’t like the look of them on an F: ruins the lines IMO.

Re: Mud Flaps?? Any Point??
Maybe the answer could be to have them front and back on the passenger side which is likely to get the most muck from the edge of the road (especially in the country), and on the drivers side nothing then I don't see them
Being silly of course

I fitted them because I like the look, however in my experience hey scrape over speed humps unless you stop and proceed ever so slowly and the front ones seem to accumulate crud behind them therefore in my view annual removal and clean out is essential. On the list for May.

Mud flaps are for sensible people.
Sensible people do not buy an MG F.
See what I mean?

Dunno what you mean. My F is the optimum car to fit the practical requirements i have.Barbour wrote:Mud flaps are for sensible people.

But I may have picked the requirements to suit the car
It's a bit like the way you have to chuck the car into corners hard every now and then to get the fuel gauge to read properly. Any fun that may ensue is purely coincidental.

Re: Mud Flaps?? Any Point??
I read there are two kinds of people: the one that like the mudflaps and the others that don't like these items.
I am in the 3rd group: I hate them with a passion
I do like a nice set of mudflaps: on a rally car or on a lorry throwing up massive amounts of water during heavy rain.
Come on guys, mudflaps on cars is something from the seventies and eighties, especially on sporty looking cars.

Re: Mud Flaps?? Any Point??
Just checking back in to this thread I started to report today's job was taking off the Mud Flaps on my recent acquisition, looks so much better to me and I found some damp dirt trapped in behind some of them too.
They will be staying off, they look in good condition so will clean them up and see if I can sell them on as I need some MGF funds

Re: Mud Flaps?? Any Point??
I'm with you Erik! I hate the look of them on an MGF (or TF). But they could be helpful in reducing the stone-rash on the sills that can lead to corrosion. But equally, owners could simply maintain their cars properly [ducks for cover!]ErikB wrote:I am in the 3rd group: I hate them with a passion

I like mudflaps...I also like 80'S music...and I like CD's. (gathers together Talk Talk CD's and leaves by a side exit, unobtrusively. Arrives home without any cowsh1t on the sills to clean off ).
