Re: Your car history?
I had a Marina, I owned up (it was a TC version though, it was fast for sure but you had to be careful as it didn't like going round corners and bits would fall off) maybe that's why the diff broke.
Dell, I too changed the engine on my 1600E I fitted a half race engine to it from Burtons engineering (Road & Racing in Hanwell to be exact). This is it en-route to the Arctic Circle having a rest at Stockholm Airport. Slightly different rear wheels as you can see, Woolfrace on the front, I had to flare out the rear arches to fit those rear wheels and tyres, sorry but Starsky & Hutch was a favourite on TV in those days. It was also illuminated underneath with rear fog lamps and a painted underframe.

Re: Your car history?
I started driving in 1979, and it goes something like this....
1972 Renault 16 (Bit like driving round in your favorite armchair)
1960 Austin A40
1974 Citroen DS (Fanbelt snapped, so the whole of the front needed to come off to replace it.....who says MGs are hard to get at!!)
1975 Ford Capri 3.0 ghia (why oh why, no heating, no comfort and few toys)
1976 Renault 17 Gordini (Electric blue with a yellow starsky and hutch style stripe)
1975 Renault 15 TS
1980 Datsun Prairie (Handy at the time to carry the baby bits)
1980 Vauxhall Cavalier Coupe (the ex didnt notice the flashing red light on the dash telling her there was no oil in the engine)
1981 Renault 11 Turbo (Great til the Turbo blew!!)
1984 Audi 2.2 Coupe
1985 Audi Coupe Rally
1984 Peugeot 505
1985 Citroen BX Estate (The water pump bolt sheared and needed an engine rebuild)
1990 Citroen Xantia (Lost all power steering, break and suspension fluid at " in excess of 60mph" going down the Massif Central in France towing a caravan)
1997 Citroen Saxo
1998 Citroen Synergie
2003 Citroen C3
2003 Citroen C8 (more toys than Hamleys!!)
2000 MGF
Well....I suppose I got there in the end!!

Memories..... Like the corners of my mind... (sung in the style of Barbra Streisand)
Well, when I posted the first list of cars in my life, I never expected such a great response. It's so nice to be among like minder people.
I was wondering, as I'm still only into the second week of my MGF, is there a secret wave I should know about when passing other MGF lovers? I see people doing it to VW Beetle owners and I had it done to me when passing other motor homes on a recent trip to Europe in a hired Motor Home.
I wanna go and play in the G this weekend but it's gunna rain GRRRRRR! What should I do?????????
Tata all..

Maybe I'm biased, but my 2004 Monogram Black Olive MGTF 160 Coupe LE (one of 30 in the world) is the best I've had.

Re: Your car history?
I passed my test (first time on 4th June 1968 at Southend-on-Sea) driving my Dad's Simca 1000.
1968 Ford Anglia 105E (1962) and already a rust bucket - Cost £65. I managed to write it off in the New Forest.
1970 Mini (1959 Austin Seven)
1972 MGB GT (1969) (BRG, Wires, great, great car - UHJ 528 H) Our first baby forced sale - it wasn't the baby; it was the ancillary kit!! In hindsight I should have kept it and bought a trailer!
1976 Fiat 124 Sport Coupe (1971) - Great drive but dodgy steering.
1979 Lancia Beta Coupe 1600 (1976) - Great car and no rust - This was one of the first registered in the UK.
1981 Lancia Beta Coupe 2000 (New) - Another great car and towed a horse box like a dream!
1995 Ford Sierra 4x4 Ghia Estate (1990) - A great compromise - pull the horses, carry the dogs + great drive!
2000 MGF VVC 2000MY (New) Solar Red - I finally fulfilled my dream and got back to an MG! Great car (almost) trouble free but unfortunately written off last October.
2007 MG TF 160 (2002) X-Power Grey - I LOVE IT!!!!
Not many for almost 40 years of driving so don't fret Hollie!

Eat your heart out! My car is a MGTF 160 Coupe LE - Monogram Black Olive - one of 30 in the world.
Re: Your car history?
My cars and the various country Registration plates would become a severe bore so perhaps only the Highlights since passing my test in an Austin A40 in 1962, 3 weeks after my 17th birthday.
A 1937 Austin 7 Ruby which I gave a full nut and bolt restoration but required 3 engines to keep it on the road. Best time for an engine change was 2 hours to go to a Friday night party. Painted with Atco Green Brushing Belco plus wet and dry, now known as BRG.
A Hillman Imp Mk2 and a Austin 1100 Mk2 which was shortened by 2ft on an icy Jugoslav road near Tuzla. The replacement was a Morris 1300 Countryman bought off the BL stand at Belgrade car Show for £432. This car was brought back to UK but in order to register a MOT was required which was impossible with 1/2 inch camber on the front wheels due to severe distortoin of the front subframe on YU roads.
Whilst living in Belgrade, I visited UK and went to the local MG Dealer one Thursday. Price and availability for a RHD Export MGB GT, white full spec. with trade discount. A call to the factory gave an offer of one on the Production Line, available Monday, collect Tuesday for £930. On the Friday, the mandatory 500 mile service was carried out by a well known Sports car company in Warwick, Saturday Salzburg, Sunday Belgrade, two months latera HGF in the mountains near Sarajevo. The head and rocker cover nuts and cover gasket still had the post build green paint which would have made it very difficult to have retorqued the head. I patched it up making a copper gasket but needed me to fit a new block, head and pistons when back in UK. This was quickly sold to furnish my new flat.
Before retiring, I proposed to buy an MGF but Ann withheld approval as she had only driven Automatics for many years. When at the 2000 Geneve Motorshow, I phoned and asked if they made an Automatic, can I buy one. Certainly. I have just orderd it. What !!! My MY2000 Steptronic is my retirement toy.
Our 12 year old 32K 1.4 Clio is my town and wet weather car whilst a 3 year old Astra 1.8 Automatic is Ann's car and our winter and ski trip transport.
Then Ann has her 1969 from new Sunbeam Stilleto with a 1968 Tax Disc which I must rebuild soon.

Re: Your car history?
1960 Morris 8 convertible (1935) 2 seater.
1961 Morris 8 convertible (1937) 4 seater (needed a back seat!)
1962 Riley Kestrel ( can't remember the year)
1963 Morgan 4/4 (1938) Coventry Climax engine rather worn, couldn't get parts for it so fitted a Ford engine and gearbox with morgan box still in situ, v. interesting drive!
1964 - 1967 Based in Singapore drove some interesting cars including MG TB, shared a TD for a while.
1967 Simca 1000, somewhat modified, I had a relative working for Simca GB so we made sure it was a Mini eater.
1970 Simca 1100
1971 Simca 1204 Very quick but hell trying to keep 2 twin choke Weber carbs in tune.
1974 MGBGT Great car but a bit of a squeeze to fit in wife and 2 growing daughters.
1977 Fiat 500 (1958) Cabrio model even more of a squeeze but house purchase made sale of MGBGT necessary.
1978 Second Fiat 500 (1967) purchased to provide spares for first but provided much needed room to transport daughters to boarding school.
1979 Yet another Fiat to add to fleet more modern- a 126
1980 Lancia HPE Fantastic car superb engine but even the series 2 had body work issues.
1984 Volvo 240 series and Simca 1100. The Anglesey weather was playing havoc with the Italian steel(?) the Lancia had to go.
1988 Another Volvo backed up by a Polo
1990 yet another Volvo and yet another Polo
1998 Volvo V40 and a peugeot 106
2003 Peugeot replaced by Beetle
2004 Volvo V50
2006 My wifes Beetle replaced by MG TF (2004) for some reason she thinks we bought the MG for ME, can't think why, she is allowed to drive it whenever it rains.
2007 Original Fiat 500(1958) sold to an enthusiast who intends to rebuild it!!
2008 Have appointment with local Fiat dealer for the UK launch of the new Fiat 500..... watch this space

The only thing that is annoying me at the moment is all this rain because my car keeps leaking and this morning there was a lot of water down the inside of both doors and in the footwells!!plrobbo wrote:Well HollieTF - you've certainly made an excellent step up for such a 'youngster' - like the car and colour.HollieTF wrote:Here is my list:

Re: Your car history?
Well here goes then, been driving since 1991, being at University etc did limit my early choices:
1st - 1978 Ford Escort Mk 2 1.3L - great engine, unfortunately the majority of the chassis and body was rust! (4 Months)
2nd - 1984 Ford Fiesta Mk2 950Popular - great little car, bit slow uphill (slight problem as I was at Uni in Wales) (5 Years)
3rd - 1994 Renault 19 1.9TD - Company Car but went well after the fiesta (6 Months)
4th - 1990 Peugeot 309 1.9GRD - Quick buy when I lost the Company Car, had a bit of a problem with water getting into engine (6 Months)
5th - 1998 Daewoo Lanos 1.6SX - I know, but it was cheap and my first new car! (18 Months)
6th - 1999 Mercedes A170CDI - Again new car, loved it to bits but not enough to make the final payment! (2 Years)
7th - 2001 Mercedes A170CDI (New Model) - Bought new and collected from Germany - liked this too (I got company car shortly after this so it was used by my Mum for several years and only sold last year) (6 Years)
8th - 2001 Vauxhall Vectra 2.0TD LS - Company car and not too bad either (3 Years)
9th - 2004 Vauxhall Zafira 2.0TD Elegance - The wife's car (18 Months)
10th - 2004 Toyota Prius 1.5 Hybrid T Spirit - Company Car - What was I thinking? (3 Years)
11th - 1998 MGF 1.8VVC - At last a decent car! (Still Own...)
12th - 2006 Vauxhall Zafira 1.9CDTi Design - Brand new model to replace the wife's (Still own...)
13th - 2007 Vauxhall Astra 1.9CDTi SRi - Company Car, like it so far - lets hope it's not unlucky 13!) (Still Have...)
Not as long as some lists, but not bad for 17 years of motoring - I can even remember the registrations of most of them!

Re: Your car history?
Memory loss with age, but from what I can remember:-
Lambretta 150LD (written off)
Lambretta 150LD
Maico 250
Morris 1000
MG Midget 1275 (chrome bumper)
Datsun 120Y estate (Death trap - back end always wanted to lead the way!)
Renault 12
Renault 12
Renault 21
Fiat Strada (long term loaner)
BMW318i
Rover 820 SLi
Renault 19 (current - still going strong after 3 learner drivers and 140k+ miles)
Rover Sterling
MGF
MG TF 160 (current)
MG ZT- T (2.5 V6) (current)
Loved 'em all except the Datsun and the rust bucket Fiat. Beemer was good but the Rovers were sublime, despite the Clarkson factor. The current MG stable beats the lot by a country mile. Would love to get the Midget back but not sure I could get in and once in, get out!
