I’m having my good ol’ Lilibet with me at the moment for some service&repair job after hibernation. First thing was to swap the coolant temperature (gauge) sensor, a very pleasant job (NOT). So off to the bay for the bi-annual “Hauptuntersuchung” (or MoT, in other words). Sailed through with no faults or advisories ... but failed on emissions. Lambda sensor’s toast, on a Mk 1.5 VVC, with the old setup. Sensor in the manifold, oh bugger ... :thumbsd:

 Oddly enough I had to swap the temp guage sensor this morning on the 75th as it suddenly packed up working .................................... after much twisting and cursing it's done  On another note am getting really peeved with Duraflex ........................................................................... ordered the rear bush set on the 13th and they still have not arrived. No tracking details given so cannot even find out what is happening. Assuming the bushes are good when and if they do turn up I would ahve to think long and hard before ordering from them again :thumbsd: .

Took a little look at the high level brake light to see why its not working. That wiring loom strapped to the boot hinge is a very effective wire cutter!

Popped in at the test station, no issues apart from being a little oily around the engine. Told the test guy this is standard for conservation purposes, we had a good laugh and I drove off with the new sticker for the next two (! :P ) years. This time in a colour perfectly befitting the Monogram Spectre bodywork. :thumbsu:

Pumped up 2 tyres, both off side and reduced the pressure in the nearside from 40psi!
Not quite the "front tyres lose 3psi a day" the car was advertised with.
Not to worry, she'll be getting new(er) tyres.

Also drilled out the rivets prior to replacing the rear screen.

(All on the 1.8i)

Flew through the MOT with no advisories - yippeee!!
After the trials of last year with the emissions, no problems this year after I had fitted a new good quality cat. The old cat looked nearly new but must have been a cheapo that didn't work properly.
Looking forward to a great summer now. First stop Midland Centre Welsh Rallye, next month.

Didn't get very far, managed to lose 20psi and not get any back in despite over an hour of pumping.

Broke it!

Post by Plezier » Sun Apr 26, 2015 10:03 pm

Spent the afternoon with the Register at Burghley House met some good peope and looked at some stunning cars. Got all the way back to Boston and noticed a hot smell. Stopped and checked for sticking brakes and noticed coolant dripping .......................................... darned hose .........................."Hose assembly-heater in/out " has split at a moulded seam. So Monday have to remove access cover and remove the knackered hose and get another one fitted the refill and bleed the system...................................... Wonderful :thumbsd: .

The MPi had a hose go in January away from home and now "Elsie" the VVC has had one go. Seems to me that I need to have aclose look at the rest of "Elsie's" rubber coolant hoses  .

Something not right here!
Did you check the Schrader isn't stuck before starting by releasing some fluid into a lemonade bottle?

The full monti 40,000 mile service with a thorough clean and detail of engine bay, seems a shame to put the cover back on

Painted the high level brakelight and the fuel filler surround silver.

Colour keyed the central plastic / lock bit of the fuel filler in Diamond white (that's a penny piece masking the keyhole)!

Continued with the rust repair and paint on the boot.
Looking much better now. Just needs flatting and then laquer.

I started by opening the valve with the low loss connector key and of course the system pressure is greater than the pump pressure so it released some fluid into the pump - I'm going to jack the car up to releive some of the pressure of the system so I can get some fluid in.
