It's a code on your vin plate look for the eigth letter.

Basically you have four different types :

The 1.6 is 115bhp
The 1.8 can be 120 on the standard mpi and on all steptronics, you can also have 143 on the vvc (look at the valve cover, it should have vvc on it) and the 160 Trophy vvc (this engine will show 7250 on the rev counter as opposed to 6750 on the others).

If you like, the codes are thus :

E 115
G 120
K 135 (TF only)
T 143
L 160
Bilstein shocks, Piper 4-2-1 manifold, Daytona, Vader cold-air induction, custom Z and F Stage 2 re-map, Electric boot release, braided hoses, Blue Magnecor leads, Technozen relays, Stage 1 head, BMW Angel Eyes headlights, "MG" puddle lights.

Curtis, I answered your question for you. Look at your vin number and the eigth letter will correspond to one of the codes I have supplied, that will be your bhp.

By the way, lovely car and they are all 1.8's. It will be a 120 or a vvc 143.

If your car is a VVC you will see VVC written on the inlet manifold when you look at the engine with the boot open.

Hi just a quick question on BHP - I have a 1.8VVC giving me 143 BHP by the book but when it had the head gasket replaced by the previous owner it had a trophy 160 recon head put on it - how will this affect my BHP ? Thanks Marty

the lettering Nigel is referring to is approx 3" height in height so is very easy to see - VVC.

If you registered the car with the Register, you also have the VIN number to hand and as Adrian mentioned, the 8th letter should be a T for a VVC=143bph.

It's easy to tell the 1.8i and the VVC apart - just open the boot and have a look at the engine. The VVC has that lettering embossed on the inlet manifold, but also it has a secondary cam belt on the nearside of the engine running round the ends of the two overhead cams in order to operate the VVC mechanism, under a plastic cover. The 1.8i doesn't have this.

Easiest way to tell if you have a VVC isw look at the redline on the rev counter. If it shows 7250 then you have a VVC, Simples
TF160 - Bilstiens, Mike Satur 4-2-1, Sports Cat, Quad Daytona, Z and F Tuning Phase 2 Remap showing 177Bhp @ Janspeed RR day and a Big Grin :D (oh and a glass rear screen and bits of shiny stuff) 85th suspension bits to fit!
