MGF Spring Clean and Semi-detail

Post by hawkstringer » Sat Jun 01, 2013 5:23 pm

I have not seen much on this forum as far as cleaning your cars go.

Anyways, being a nice day the mgf deserved a treat as she just got the 12 months MOT and Road Tax under her belt.

Started off with quick jet wash, folowed by s rinse with Traffic Film remover then a pre-wash snow foam.

As you can see a shampoo and mf wash mit to follow up with the contact wash.

After a good rinse off it was time to concentrate on the wheels using billberry wheel cleaner and wheel brushes etc... Below shows the before and afters as well as the tire gel coating to replenish rubber.

Next job was to deep cleanse and decontaminate the paintwork with some good quality clay bar, as you will see from the resutls its been a while since I last clayed it.

Afterthat followed up with some SRP by hand to remove any smuges left by the clay.
once the paintwork was clean, it was then time to restore the dull black window surround which had become faded: For this I used a paintwork restoration compoud with a dual action polisher and medium grade polishing pad. the results were almost instant as you will see from the 50/50 shot below:

On the paintwork after polishing I coated with xxx carnuba paste wax for protection.

the softop was not in bad condition but thought it deserved a recondition especially inside:

The tail pipes were also a little dull so they got posished as well, but with a specialist metal polish. See before and after:

Any ways here are the final results of mine and my friends hard work who kindly helped me today. Cheers Shabba!

I used some Renovo. But I have to admit I am not yet happy with the results, I plan to 2nd coat tommorrow with a roller, I feel this will bring more of a true colour and even shade to the hood.
