Thieving gits!

Post by cavaddict » Wed Aug 28, 2013 1:12 pm

Parked my TF up in Leicester today and now I'm home I've just noticed my 1924-2004 and 160 badges have been nicked off my boot lid!
Can see why now though, as having spoken to Brown & Gammons, it turns out you can't buy them any more!
Nuts!

OMG!!!

Perhaps the Register should commission some new ones?

If someone can take some detailed pictures and dimensions, we'll see whether we can get some more made up. I don't expect them to be cheap though - how many sets would be needed?

It's one of those things.....you don't miss them until they're gone and even more so when you find you can't get them :-(

Keep a look out on ebay - it's funny what turns up on there... probably what "accidentally" fell into someone's pocket in April 2005... ;)

Worst part is, they used a screw driver to remove the 160 badge and have dented/scraped the rear panel.

Sorry to hear that- blummin' annoying ay?

The 160 badge shouldn't be too bad to get hold of but I imagine the 1924 - 2004 will be very rare indeed.

Good luck with your search- hope it all turns out well for you.

That is sickening, like Rob said keep an eye out on ebay for someone in Leicester with these for sale.

Sorry to hear that, not something I've heard of before.

It amazes me that someone who obviously is in the know about the badges especially the 80th badge would be so willing to steal them let alone screw driver it off and not only damage the car but the badge aswell.

I'm glad I didn't own a VW in the late 80's early 90's.

Worst case scenario, there's always this:

Good luck with the search pal...

Yes I saw that one. Premium price due to the badging. All their other lids are around the £25 mark. Hmmmmmph

Rob, I've got the part number and they often appear brand new on E Bay. I can make sizes and dimensions no problem.

It would be a good idea to do this Adrian, because even if Steve finds a suitable replacement now, I am sure there will be future demand for them when the ebay supply dries up.

I think there will be a call for badges a few years down the line, as more cars are restored. I need a Trophy 160 badge for the back of mine. I can get it made in vinyl, but would prefer the proper raised lettering.
Cheers

Just makes me wonder if it's actually worth replacing them. There was no real damage to the boot lid that hasn't polished out today but if they'd used a screw driver on all of them, things would have been a lot worse. Is bad news when you're worried about parking and leaving your car for an hour or so!

I agree. I think there is a stronger business case for "160" badging given the number of Trophy and TF160s manufactured using that particular badge. One could also have fun too - any one want a "135" badge? Or a "190" or "200" ;)

Valid point but one of the attractions of the 80LE is the unique badging and seat covers.
