Bit more welding and grinding now its dried up a bit

Yesterday ....Bank Hol Monday.
Finished off the boot seams and fitted the repainted high level brake light surround.

Started then to tackle the air intakes. Amazing what you find when you remove all the plastic bits! All that showed from the outside were a couple of tiny little paint blisters!
Other side was much the same.

Treated the surface rust and discovered that the rear sill sections can be accessed from here so out came the waxoyl!

Next job to start refinishing the paintwork.

Hi Folks,

Over the bank holiday weekend & today. My 1999 VVC got lots of tlc in the form of.......

Two new Gates timing belts
New Gates waterpump
New Gates alternator belt
New OAT coolant
New NGK platinum plugs
One of those snazzy MG Mania alternator belt adjusters
And the fancy TT Mk7 stainless exhaust shown below. The one I removed was the original from 1999. It had a little surface rust but was fully functional & gas tight. I have to admit I felt a bit guilty when I binned it!

The TT exhaust not only looks orgasmic. It sounds awesome!
Barely any more noise at tick-over but realy growls through the gears. Then settles down again to being almost inaudible at 50mph in top. At 70mph it can be heard again but it isn't ott.

I had the roof down on my 50 mile test drive aswell. Just to listen to the noise. So with the roof up at motorway speeds I'm sure it wouldn't get on my wick?

If like myself you've been considering treating your MG to one of these but haven't done so due to the price? Hang the expense, you can't take the money with you!

Rebuilt the filler cap. Took it back to bare metal and laquered it.

Took the rear deck trims back to bare metal and laquered them.

Not a lot ................. putthe engine cover back on "Elsie" after replacing her split heater hose ................... swapped the broken engine/boot grill on the 75th was refitting the drivers door card and the heavens opened..................... torrential rain then hail stones within minutes the drive way had deep puddles on it. Just glad that I got the belly pan back on the other evening.

SOLD IT my Red F that is,
After 12 years and a total of 184000Km she's gone to a new owner. I have spent over $29000 in that period, sounds alot but considering that includes plenty of club competition work and was my daily driver for 10 years, brilliant value.
I now have a TF160 with 63000Km and already has done two hillclimbs.....

Back came off all 3 clips broke, so toke the whole thing aff and fitted same alcantara as on the window frame.

Yesterday (Sunday) primed, top coated and laquered both side vents, so just need to cut that back a bit and polish. Then refit the plastic ducts and front with mesh etc.

Made a start on a slightly scabby seam under the nearside rear light.

Finished off the back paint jobs on her. Not perfect but the boot seams and seam below the nearside back light look much better now, am pleased with the result.
Fitted new number plates and a nice shiney bit of bling to the lower edge of the boot lid.

Finished off the side air intakes and re-fitted the mesh and plastics as well as the inner ducting.
Looks much nicer.

So we stopped pumping the suspension yesterday as both sides looked close and I wanted to go for a settlement drive today to check, was going to shot down to Brighton as today is the annual London to Brighton mini run
but
I had the bright idea swap the noisy wiper motor, shouldn't take long, so I ran out of daylight and by the time it was back together I only had enough time for a once around the block (was quite a large block) but it showed the suspension and the cruise control are both in order.
I then tidied all my bits out of her, hoovered, lubbed locks and hinges.

Feeling satisfied I spent a moment checking out why the steering wheel audio remote switches weren't working, well the fix took a moment popping the cover off the top of the steering column and pushing the plug bag in but pulling the head unit out and back in took over an hour and involved kick panels and gloveboxes.........

Pleased with this weekends work.

The stereo in "Elsie" (Sony DSX S-100) stopped working on the drivers side then was cuttign in and out so pulled the unit out to check the connections. Yep was one being pressures by the "A" frame behine the dash that supports the heater unit.

By pulling the double centre vent out of the dash one can view down inside the dash and see the connections and even reach them so I carefully put the wires aside you of harms way and we are working once again. Actually makes it easier to do as well .

God only knows what it would be like behin the dash with the front and rear out puts wired in as well for subs and pre amp etc

I can reach the back of the headunit with the glove box out, it was even easier before I fitted the passanger airbag.

The problem is the number of bits hanging out the back -
2 double din plug and sockets
autochanger lead
aerial
steering wheel remote control box
rca leads
usb/ipod cables
extra bulk from adding rear speakers on a mk1.................
