Weather not bad down here today so spent about an hour and a half in the garage taking the top cover off the 'F'. It's an easy enough job to do if you know how to remove pop rivets, a few nuts and bolts and pull off the hood fabric where it has been glued on. It all ended up like this:

Tomorrow I shall pop out and get some contact adhesive and then we're all set to fit the new cover.

Well, it took a little longer than I thought, and I had to do several trial fits before I took the big step of applying the glue and rivetting everything back together, but I'm very impressed not only with my handywork (first time I've ever done this job) but with the fit and finish of the finished item.

Many thanks to Peter at MGFMania for a great product & for his help and advice through the process. All set now for another 22 years!

Charged the failing battery for an early Boxing Day run to the seaside (35C today in OZ!). The seatbelt warning light refused to go out so spent the afternoon tracing the problem - still not sure of the cause but cleaning the electrical connections under the seat seems to have cured the problem. Got motivated to finally install the ‘gold plated’ new dials for the fan, heater/AC which hopefully will last longer than the previous replacements. Went for an evening top down run in the cool so life is good!

New to the forum, but a short run down of work cattied out over the winter months on my 56 plate TF, which I have owned for 4 years now. Mud flaps fitted all round, low level alarm fitted, roll hoops fitted, gear change cable ends replaced and an alloy hand brake handle. Very excited as I’ve just ordered a vented bonnet from RPS. I know it’s taking the TF away from standard, but it’s a mod I’ve loved the look of since I saw a blue TF at the NEC last year, very impressed. Will look to do the work after the summer run around.

MoT passed without issue a couple of weeks ago now, but a flat tyre which I spotted a couple of days ago would only stay reasonably inflated for about an hour, so as the puncture was irrepairable, two new rear tyres today (after only 5k)

Hello peeps, just bought a 1998 MGF mainly to stop it getting scrapped, £300 didnt seem bad at the time. took it for MOT today and was quite surprised, it failed but nowhere near as bad as i thought it would. 4 new tyres, the ones on it are like new unfortunately the car has been stood at the seaside for over a year and the tyres are all cracked and perished. Rear discs are like CD's and the brake pipes to the rear calipers are rotten. the exhaust and cat need changing and the back box support band has rotted through. Just priced everything apart from tyres off flea bay for just over £150 but the next step is to find tyres anyone have suggestions ?
By the way i'm new to MG ownership so bare with me if and when i ask stupid questions.
Mike.

Welcome to the forum, tyres is the most debated subject on F/TF forums, up to a few years ago I would've said Toyo T1Rs but since they changed compound & are not to compatable with the old compound I've changed to Falken Ziex 914s.
The best price I found recently for Falkens was at Ribble Valley Tyres at Longridge even though I live in Colne I drove over had the tyres fitted & 4 wheel alignment done. Of course the F is not as fussy about tyres as the TF, but whatever you do don't buy cheap tyres they usually don't work although some will say they do.

Hi Mike and welcome to the forum and F ownership.

You'll soon get to read, see and find out that F's and TF's are extremely sensitive to tyre choice. Lots and lots of bedtime reading on here and other sites about tyres; have a read through and then make an informed decision. FWIW, the official MG Technical Bulletin on the subject can be found Here

Fitted central locking today. £28.60 for a pair of motorised locks from MGFnTFBitz. Much cheaper than those being offered on fleabay and work a treat ( had the ECU activated for central locking when I had the relays replaced). No more fiddling with the key in the dark :thumbsu:

Having problems with vertigo lately, particularly when I try to crawl under the car, so I paid a local travelling mechanic to come over and change the sump on the F. One of the lugs fastening it to the gearbox had cracked off, although it's probably been like it for ages. My thanks to Mykel for helping me out with a replacement. Anyway the guy came round the other day and did the job. It took him 2 1/2hrs. He is a French Rover specialist and familiar with the K series engine, so I'm happy that he's done a good job. New oil & filter and a clean up of the lower engine steady and ready now for a trip to Cannes mid March for the Mem'Sahib's birthday.

Photo below shows replacement sump with the bit that broke off the old one next to it:

Hi. Just started fitting Goodridge braided hoses to the brakes. Done two so far, not many problems but I think it’s the first time the rigid pipelines have been disconnected, pretty tuff and corroded slightly. They appear to be steel with like a green polymer covering over them, which on the whole has done a good job of protecting them. Just stripped off a little where it screws into the flex hose. So far, so good. Should firm up the brakes nicely.

Had a few days away with the Mem'Sahib on the French Riviera. here's a shot of the car (yesterday) on the corniche de l'Esterel (Between St Raphaël and Cannes) with the bay of Cannes in the background. Lovely day, hardly any traffic about.

Fitted new resistors for the heater fan. Pretty simple job really but you need to be a bit of a contortionist to get in there.

I now have all 4 speeds on my fan!

Changed the gearbox oil. What a difference! Always been a bit stroppy about engaging reverse but now slides in no problem. All round smoother gear change. Also changed the rear discs which were an MOT advisory last year and also fitted Green Stuff pads.

Hi. Have started preparation work on my new RPS TF vented bonnet. Just cut out the apertures and going to fit SS grill to each. Going to remove the bumper and fit Mike Satur air duct kit then modify the slam panel. Lots to be getting on with...
