Gave Zippy a wash, Siliconed up a little hole and fabsil treated the roof. He's a great looking car (I forgot to take some pictures) But he leeks like a sieve... hopefully he's a little more water tight now.
Ive got to get all the carpets out and dry him out but too excited to do that now, I want to drive him tomorrow!

Fitted a new ’stat to the Steppy yesterday, a real pita to get at. Especially as only in May I had swapped the plastic manifold for an alloy one.
Note: if you do any work on the manifold, change the ’stat as well, it's a 5 quid piece and you'll regret it if you don't.

Mo went into garage for break pipes renewing new back tyre and to find out why horn does not work it needs a new airbag spring .

Re: what have you done on your mgf today?
My major brake overhaul continues on the Abingdon, but this car shows no sign of ever being touched in this department from new, the flexible hoses and and the sliding caliper bolts refuse to come undone so looks like new rear brake pipes will be needed. I have soaked everything in penetrating fluid but I am not holding my breath.
The front n/s disc also refuses to come off so I have a 15 ton hydraulic puller on its way so watch this space!

Re: what have you done on your mgf today?
I cannot get the n/s front disc off by my normal method and broke two10mm bolts trying so now resorting to a bigger force.
Great stuff !
I pumped it up and it went rock solid then with a crack like a gunshot the disc came off and flew about two feet forward !Great stuff !
Re: what have you done on your mgf today?
Are you loading the end of the drive shaft or alternatively the end of the stubshaft thereby denting the bearing tracks and scrapping them.

Re: what have you done on your mgf today?
Hi Geoff
Yes that is a concern but the disc has to come off, I have spare wheel bearings so will change them if nessesary, but the hub spins freely now with no notchiness so I think I have got away with it.

Re: what have you done on your mgf today?
I was reviewing my actions whilst sat in traffic on the M6 this morning and dawned on me that the wheel bearings do not take any side loads, they are retained by circlips and the stub axle is pressed in and retained by a hub nut which is torqued up so what ever side loads there are, are transmitted into the hub. Or am I wrong?
Re: what have you done on your mgf today?
For any Force, there must be an equal and opposite force.
The piston Force is against the stub axle. The opposite force is thru the extractor claws, the disc, the hub, THE BEARING to the stub axle nut.
I use the ram from the 10 Ton Press. I turned up an adaptor to go onto the end of the hub so the load goes from Ram to hub, the disc and back to the ram hence no excessive loading on the bearing.

Re: what have you done on your mgf today?
Took the TF for a run or two on a cold, crisp, gloriously sunny Saturday - lovely
However, I'm ashamed to admit that even after that there is still some fuel left in the tank - I last filled the car on 8th July

Re: what have you done on your mgf today?
Read the fail sheet and ordered the parts to correct the following }
Rear discs and pads
main break pipe and rear nearside one
hydragas sphere front drivers
and front drivers track rod end ball joint !
should keep me busy for a short while !
any advice on doing any of the above in your own garage would be appreciated =]

Re: what have you done on your mgf today?
Carried on with the brake overhaul today, boxed off the n/s front, new disc and caliper and a stainless brake hose, I didn't remove the whel arch liner this time as I could see where the hose went, had to remove the battery though to get to the brake pipe union and luckily it came undone ok, unlike the problem that I am facing next with the rears.
The rear calipers work ok but I cant get one of the slider bolts loose so I am taking it to work tomorrow to ask one of the technicians to have a go at it, otherwise it will be a pair of new callipers.
I am convinced that no replacement parts have ever been fitted to this car from new, originality is a good thing I suppose but nothing wants to come undone! While I had my head under the car this afternoon I spotted a date stamp on the exhaust box 03/98 so even that is original to the car which was registered 07/98.The rear calipers work ok but I cant get one of the slider bolts loose so I am taking it to work tomorrow to ask one of the technicians to have a go at it, otherwise it will be a pair of new callipers.

Re: what have you done on your mgf today?
Changed the CVT fluid and filter on the Steppy yesterday. Quite a job, took me four hours to complete. The nastiest bits are three of the bolts holting the oil sump, as these are not accessible from underneath, you have to take the NSR wheel off and remove the mud guard, then a small spanner will reach to the bolts. Also, to refit the filter it's necessary to first drop it into the new sump, then fiddle both around the subframe and fit the filter with the sump partly in place. Quite tricky as you also have to keep an eye on not losing the gasket.
But from today's driving experience, it was well worth the effort. No kangarooing on shifting into D when cold, just a slight push, but very smooth. Also much less sound from the box now.
