Mixed Reviews Toyo Tyres

Post by john1964 » Wed Feb 12, 2014 4:16 pm

OK so everyone raves on about how brilliant
These tyres are on the F/TF,yet if you go on the
Tyre review website, they get mixed reviews, are
They really the best option for our cars, currently
Running Yokohama c drive(came with the alloys)
General concensus is these maybe contributing
To my current handling issues

I fitted Toyos 3 months ago replacing some Avons and they are a world apart. It totally transformed the car.

The F/TF seems to be very picky on tires.

MGF/TF owners stumbled on the T1Rs themselves, and have found them extremely good for the money. I have them on my F at the moment, and they are wearing really very well, and perform well too. Subsequently, MG Motor themselves have listed the T1R as one of the recommended tyres for the TF in the absence of the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D2 tyres.

I know there is sometimes a "sheep effect" on forums, but honestly, the Toyo on the MGTF work very well.

I have Toyo t1r in my f and there faultless excellent grip even in the wet and I don't think the wear rate is that bad to be honest.I would recommend a full 4 wheel alignment when there new so its all set up spot on

I've had T1Rs on 3 TFs & they are good even when driving "spiritedly" on a few continental trips usually get well over 20K on them so that's not bad really?

I went from Pereli P6000 to T1r, changed the car even though the Pereli's still had 6mm left.

I´m also a fan of the Toyo´s :-)
I use the T1Rs in Summer and the SNOWPROX S953 in Winter.
Good grid and good price.

I can't complain, as Neil says we drive spiritedly on the continent. I'm on my third set now and I get over 23,000 on the rears and around 28,000 on the fronts, what's wrong with that ?

We've seen well over 100 mph and more corners than you may expect on all three sets, it's not all easy motorway mileage for us and we're often fully loaded on the Euro trips.

Looking at the rating stickers on most tyres as I often pop in to my local independant tyre fitter for a chat and he always checks our tyres (we have five cars at home), they are better (on paper) than many better known brands, but that's how the advertising goes) and worse than some. I have not found one tyre that tops the ratings chart on all apects.

Toyo's on my MGF, best thing I did for the car.

A great tyre but how do you get 28k on a set of tyres for the rears. Done 8k and half worn. Admittedly fronts still look brand new.

Tone, I'm being honest with my statement, I don't have to sell the tyres to anybody, all advice is freely given. This figure has been consistent across all three sets with one exception where, on a n/s/r, the inner sidewall gave up (speed hump damage possibly ?) I only noticed it when checking around before an annual trip to Luxembourg last year.

I started using T1R's on my F back in 2006 when I changed to 17" tyres as Mike Satur sold wheel/tyre sets for the F/TF. They remained on the car until sold. When I bought the TF in 2008 it had four odd budget tyres, they were replaced immediately with T1R's and they've been there ever since and this is now the third set of rears and second set of fronts, fronts will need changing by the end of the year (or before we go to Norway in August) if current mileage continues. I mention the F as these tyres suit the hydragas suspension too, my TF has a perfect suspension set up with Bilstein shock absorbers so maybe this helps the wear rate.

Many people know the distances we cover in Europe on our tours and we do not drive like your grandmother, as Neil says, spiritedly. Add this to UK mileage and I'm happy with these tyres, winter or summer.

**Edited** sorry Tone and others, my figures were quoted from memory and were in fact incorrect, these are more like my work Renault Scenic. The last figures I can be sure of are 28,000 fronts and 23,000 rears.

I had Toyo T1R's on my 15" rims and the last two sets of tyres on my 16''s are Toyo R1R, they are a road legal track day tyre. This week as I want a more aggressive track tyre am going Kumo http://www.kumho.com.au/blog/products/ecsta-v70a
I have even on my road car a 6cyl Nissan that Toyos give great grip and a good tyre life for the money.
My first Autokhana wont be until April and Hill climb early May, I will let you know if I have improved my lap times!
I am looking at these for everyday road tyres http://www.kumho.com.au/blog/products/ecsta-xs-ku36
Well after seven years of Toyos maybe just maybe there might be something more modern but I doubt if they will offer such good value for money

I'm thinking of using federal 595RSR for track use, but will be interested to see how you get in with those Kumos Andrew! :D

Just ordered a new pair of 195/45 R16 Toyo T-1R for the front. I was surpriesed about the price just € 120,- for both including postage.
Would be around 100,- pound , not too bad ;-)
