Project Shed wins its class at the Silverstone Sprint!

I am a very happy bunny - the 'Shed ran flawlessly all week end and was brilliant on track; it handles so nicely at the moment :thumbsu:

I am even happier that it won its class - okay, there were only three participants, and one of those was also driving the Shed - but it meant that the competition for that top spot was all the tighter and the harder to win :thumbsu:

I felt sorry for Tim because he had been consistently faster through the day than me, but I managed to pull a blinder out on the final timed run to beat his fastest time by 0.2 seconds. But not too sorry!

Time to get some more sprint/hillclimb entries in!

Am also giving some serious thought to entering the double entry race - but that'll require some serious investment to get the car compliant with full FIA requirements (not to mention upgrading my race licence!)

Well done Rob. Shame we couldn't manage wins on both days. Glad shed made it past the Scrutineers hopefully without issue.

Thanks guys :D

Tony, yes, that was a shame. Hopefully we can get an MGF Register prize sorted for next year so we don't have to compete against K-series Midgets in the team events!!! ;) Also, if I do it again, I'll be better at working out which way around the cones I need to go! I was definitely starting to get the hang of it towards the end of the session...

Martin, I don't think anyone got any video footage unfortunately - but there should be some good photos turning up soon...

Despite the kid's rocker cover racer suffering from a severely damaged front axle, they managed to secure a 2nd place in the races on Sunday (unfortunately there were only 2 entries, but let's not dwell on that!)

Congratulations on the win Rob :thumbsu:

Once the heat dies down at Kimber House, I will be pushing for a rule change or our own cup for the California Cup as it was not good to hear our team was not eligble to enter as we were not a 'listed Register. Without our team entry, the competition would not have run due to low attendance numbers so it has to change for next year.

The MGCC hillclimb at Wiscombe is a good one. :thumbsu:

Be good to see some more F and TF action there.

Well done, all that effort paid off.
The only time I have won anything is when I have been the only one in my class!

Tipper, I just missed out on a Wiscombe entry: I love that hillclimb - but it was already full by the time I was sure I had completed all the bits and bobs necessary to be class compliant!

Andrew, thanks - I was in a class of three! But the first place was hard fought: I only managed to pull the fast time on the very last run!!!

Well done Rob, I'd like to give the Cali cup a go myself next year or maybe do a bit of sprinting.

Rob seeing project shed in action on sat has edged me and tony hopefully to start our own project car for auto test ect so I'll definitely be entertaining next year rather than wishing I had gave it a go. You'll be leading the team next year lol....

Tony needs more practice as he was beaten by pipa (a lady) lol ha .. though she was rather quick.

How much scrutiny did you have to go through?

I fitted them old tyres for the autotest Allan!

Chris, scrutineering was fairly mild - and believe it or not, Project Shed was classified as a standard car. You're not allowed a hydraulic handbrake, any device that helps you turn the steering wheel faster (such as a handle on the steering wheel), nor are fly-off handbrakes permitted. The only modification Tony needed to his car was some yellow tape around the earth strap. Oh, and the car has to be driven to the event, and have a current MoT. Shouldn't be too arduous? :)

It'd be great to get an F that is in some way competitive with those amazing K-series Midgets!!! More P-O-W-E-R (obviously!), a better handbrake and nice slidey tyres.

Did anyone see what tyres the winning Midget team used? They looked like Yoko A008Rs to me; over-inflated track tyres probably slide more readily and predictably than road tyres - which might be worth thinking about...

Id have thought some nice cheap Chinese budgets would do.. nice and hard..

Any advantage going thin as possible?

I was parked up opposite the K-Series midget register and had a really close up look at those cars- that brilliant engine fits beautifully in their respective engine bays.

Break away characteristics and the progressiveness of the tyre are probably more important than being cheap/hard/narrow - but I was surprised no one was using spare wheels on the rear?

Those two Midgets from the Ulster centre were remarkable weren't they? My favourite was the pale blue metallic one - gorgeous! :D

Lets not put the midget win down to just big engines and special tyres... I think the midget boys would have had a fair amount of practice too. I think you and Tony maybe spending a few evenings in the local car park doing donuts with the "boys" to get that good for next year. ;)

Break out ya burberry baseball caps. lol

It did look good, I might think about giving it a go next year if the timing works out right. :)
