HELP!!!

Post by beefio » Thu Nov 27, 2014 11:53 am

OK so I started arsing about with my window to try and stop a leak, I've adjuster the window cheater in towards the glass to try and get a better seal, the doors weren't sitting flush so I moved the strike plate in to try and get a better seal...gave it a gentle hosing down and now there are pools of water behind the seat!!!

But worse still the drivers door is stuck closed...I've tried locking unlocking, pushing from the inside etc etc but it just seems stuck tight. When you pull the handle it isn't make the click release sounds the other door makes, so seems like that's stuck!!

Any suggestions?

Bit late but should of fixed the hinge bushes first!
Other than brute force not sure what to suggest.
Could perhaps try to get one person outside to try and lift the door to get clearance on the striker plate while another person pushes with feet or shoulders from the inside?

The central locking from the fob is working, you can see and hear the lock going up and down, but I have noticed that the indicators only flash when locking, not when unlocking which they normally do...don't know if this is relevant?

HELP!!!

Post by beefio » Thu Nov 27, 2014 12:12 pm

Yes maybe you're right, but the doors didn't look like the were saging downwards, just protruding outwards which I thought maybe contributing to the leak...when I adjusted the striker the door was opening and closing fine no catching etc, but then just stuck fast out of no where...

Is it anything to do with dead locking?

Not sure on that but sounds like it might just be the pressure on the catch not allowing it to release.
Could try pushing hard on the door as if you're trying to close it and then try to unlock with the remote?

Just had another thought after having a look at mine.
Unlock the doors and with the window down push on the door and then using the internal door handle try to open the door.

I've tried pushing the door in and lifting it up with the window open, using the internal handle but nothing works.

It's really strange as I can physically move the door around on the striker so it's not actually jammed and I can see the lock release mechanism moving inside the door but it just isn't letting go of the strike!!!

That is odd, not sure what else to suggest mate.
If I think of anything I'll let you know.
Hopefully someone else might come up with a solution in the meantime.
I don't suppose you have left the door cards off?

Yes door card is off. That's how I can see the door release mechanism pulling but not releasing...

Have you tried pulling the actual rods inside the door?

I still haven't been able to fix my stuck door so I've had to get in and out of the passenger door which at 6ft ain't good! I haven't really been using the car but now the weather is improving I need to get is sorted...

To make matters worse my driver seat belt is now jammed so I can't really drive it and I need to get the door open in order to replace the seat belt!!!

I took it to a local garage and they said it needs a new door handle as its broken...but when I look down the window/door opening it looks to be working fine...I've attached a video please can you tell me if this looks like it is working normally and what might be the problem?

I don't won't to buy a new door handle if that's not the problem...

I've also attached a video showing that the door does move, but it just won't open for some reason...

I had the screw come undon on one door handle inside the door adn this stopped it working. Cannot recall how I got around opening it now but replacing the screw solved the issue.

OK I've taken it to another local garage who think the 'latch assembly' is faulty...which sounds a lot more plausable to me as the rest if the handle/lock looks to be working ok, so it could just be the latch not releasing the door...posibily brought on by me adjuster the door striker...

So does anyone have a drivers latch assembly (Remote & Key Operation) for a MY2000 - part number FQJ102262PMA?

Looks like I'm getting there :thumbsu:

So I've a replacement latch on its way to me...how much do you think I should be looking at roughly in labour from a local garage to get the door open and fit the replacement latch?

After over 3 months of climbing through my passenger door I bit the bullet and got my local garage to replace the drivers door latch assembly, they said it was a nightmare and took hours but charged me £148...so it cost me £160 including the replacement assembly. Annoying as I'd liked to have invest that in something more worth while...but there you go, needs must...

I seem to have sorted the seatbelt issue too, so I'm back on the road!

Yes I have to agree that changing the door latch is not exctly a five minute job. However the good new is that your back on the road and can actually use the door like a normal person know and not some hillbilly dirt racer.
