Cadde's 1.8 turbo Project
Cadde has made a start on his own 1.8 K-series turbo conversion, which I shall be following with some interest as I am seriously considering doing this to my car as well :thumbus:
Hopefully Cadde can fill us in on all the details, but he's made a start - a good friend has started fabrication on the turbo manifold - here compared next to the BBR GTi manifold:

Re: Cadde's 1.8 turbo Project
a thread made for me ? LOL !
Ok , but here what i have posted on the other forum , as well, for some pics you might consider to view :
http://s1379.photobucket.com/user/Cadde ... t=3&page=1
and this let my brain exlode yesterday night :
first this , easy :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Lv4yjiuJSU
than this :
http://www.gnttype.org/techarea/turbo/turboflow.html
and ive come from "no slightest idea " to "really?" haha ...
and ive come to from around the half of the flow from a 3.8 liter american block to a 1.8 liter , yaaa, somewhat half , i know , it´s nearby as some of my american friends sayin , , short trip , around the corner : 4 hrs to drive ... LOL ! WHAT ?
after that i read the compressor maps and therfore you can see where the turbo is running in his most efficiant range, with a good spoolup time... i hope that makes any sense , i´m writing ... from a guitarist point of view ...
And please : tell me when i´m on the false track with my ideas , i´m coming from ot of nowhere to this turboing thing ...
As Mykel is really busy in these days here is what he has found from the examination of the blueT Turbo :
On the exhaust turbine „DH2/2 A/R049“ leads somwhat to a T25. It is water AND oil cooled , no garrett Type indetification was found on it , huh ? another manufacturer, maybe ? One Casting mould says „52A01“.
Compressor side is an Type M27 A/R 45, pretty standard garret, he is writing ... he claims it was found on SAAB´s around the ninetys ... i have none fitting turbo with this specs on the garrett site ... pretty old type , im guessing ...
He will clear out some cluelessness of mine , when he finds the time , but in these days , who´s not busy ...
He surely will , he´s a great guy !
And yes , youre spot on , ROB ,
i will take it as is, back into the car , so no further crazyness about whats better this or that ...
but in the end of last night struggling through the compressor maps on the garrett site , for me to types will do it for phase 2 and with 0,6 bar max , i calculated a pressureratio PR 1,68 flow, near 20 lb/min; going for reliable 220-250 bhp range next year :
http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbobyga ... %20%283%29 right ?
AND
http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbobyga ... ger#GT2252
so many variables : headflow, which pistons, compresor ratio ( 8:1 best for phase 2 ? ) and THE WHOLE REST !
5,4,3,2,1 : bang head explodes !
hey, i can poste pics in here ?
i´m allowed to to this ? that would be great !
so nice christmas days to you all !
my2c ... as always ...

Re: Cadde's 1.8 turbo Project
ive found this one whatever forum somewhere in the matrix :
as only for the idea , how cool is that :
"My friend is using an Emerald K3 which has 3 on-the-fly selectable maps.
His is ties in with his boost controler and has 3 diffrent power and fueling settings switched from a 3 positions switch in the arm rest cubby bit, the settings are: 170bhp, 210bhp and 270bhp I believe.
Im sure there are other switchable ecus but his is the only one I have experience of, It is useful and rather cool "
i couldnt agree more ...
switching between : mami´s ( ok and dadys ) fuel saving and cruise/go shopping map
and papis´ " dancing with hardes , i give a XXXX what happens next , map ..."
I WANT !

Re: Cadde's 1.8 turbo Project
My friend Victor had this set up on his Maestro T16 using an Emerald - it was the infamous mental maestro from top gear.

Re: Cadde's 1.8 turbo Project
today i took a look after the harnesses , throw out the zzt one and it seems that i´m in trouble now ...
i got the emerald from the 2006(?) bbr blueTF which has an custom (?) made harness on it ...
and the connectors from the 1998 are different types ...
obviously no plug and play , ...
and here on the left the fitting connectors from the vvc and on the right , in my hand , the emerald ones ...
confused again ...
aaannndd :
next step is to swap the VVC connectors ones to the Emerald harness ...
i have to ask dave walker , maybe he put his hands on this ... shed some light on this ...
so they changed the connectors from the F ones to the TF ones ... OK ...
electric connector plans , would come in handy now ...
i´m skilled in doing such electrical tasks and can wrap my head around it ...
takes some time , but i can handle it , when i get the right wiring plans ...
can anyone provide me the plans ? or where to look ? F and TF wiring plans ...
do i missing something ?
theyre changed the connectors , hopefully not the colours , otherwise its getting interesting ...
MGFIM , i come by train ... haha ...
Thanks !

Re: Cadde's 1.8 turbo Project
Is the MGF a mk1. The wiring on a mk2 would be the same as the TF.

Re: Cadde's 1.8 turbo Project
uuhhh, sorry , No !
It´s a mk1 ...
build 1998 ...
somewhere downloadable ?
the Emerald harness was made for the TF , so i ill ask Dave Walker , maybe he had his hands on this ...
and hopefully he had some documented wiring plans , also ...
If this was custom made by BBR , i´m standing in the rain ...
or i begin to build one by myself , what means , that this thing will never find its way back to the highway ...
so again, at first searching for the wiring diagrams ...
one step after another ...

Re: Cadde's 1.8 turbo Project
pinouts of these connectors , to be precise ...
and where can i find Matt Parker ?
found a few threads in the meantime ... but i would like to get really into it myself ...
it´s not bad to learn something new ...
are the colours of the mems 1.9 from 1998 and TF from 2004(?) blueT harnesses the same ?
and Rob will hopefully show up after these days and bring some light into this and also some new pics from the build of the manifold ...
and i´m diggin this night for some more pinouts , for sure ...
