Re: Mgf donor car: building an MG Allegro VVC!
After about 10 hours of sanding like a nutter my arm is ready to fall off and the masking mission continues
Re: Mgf donor car: building an MG Allegro VVC!
So today the inside was painted Over the next few weeks most stuff can be finally bolted in

Re: Mgf donor car: building an MG Allegro VVC!
Wow Ed - a thing of great beauty!!!
Re: Mgf donor car: building an MG Allegro VVC!
Cheers quite pleased with it, outside will take a lot longer to prep but I may be able to get some time in a proper booth / clean environment.
Next job is put it together and make it run! I have got about 6 weeks until child number 3 arrives so I want to at least get it on all four wheels by then so I can relax, well maybe not!

The concept of "relaxation" will be alien concept for some while I think Ed! But congratulations to you both!
And hope you can still make good progress on this brilliant build

Cheers Rob, more little hands to help me in the garage In training for no sleep I was spannering away until 2am last night!
So I cleaned up the steering rack, checked the bushes and refilled with oil. It takes 300ml of EP90 but I had 5 litres of mtf94 so that'll do!
I got the rack all bolted up then decided it was time for the frame to go in, couldn't get the angle right at all with the back of the frame hitting the rack gear box. It's a bloody good job we made a removable section on the frame so the rack can be fitted after the frame, very tight and took some wriggling but it went in.
[/IMG]
Then spent quite a while getting all the little bolts in that tie it into the inner arches and engine / gearbox arms
Next job lower the car down and drop the motor in

So then this happened
It's not got the bottom mount attached yet so the angle is a little off but it's in there, hopefully for the last time!

Alternator to front panel
Alternator / rad
Exhaust / rad - Might have to mod the manifold and make a heat shield
Protecs fitted Been busy cleaning up the drive shafts this afternoon.

Re: Mgf donor car: building an MG Allegro VVC!
How much movement of the engine is anticipated Ed? The alternator does look close in that picture...
Re: Mgf donor car: building an MG Allegro VVC!
I've fitted a polybush in the larger of the lower torque tamer mount, hopefully this will restrict movement somewhat. Also any movement may not actually bring the alternator closer as it swings more upward with the engines pivot point.
Re: Mgf donor car: building an MG Allegro VVC!
Managed to get the drive and hubs on last night, luckily the Allegro track rod ends fit perfectly into the mgf steering arms, the tracking doesn't even look very far out!
Next job stick some front wheels on and find out where the suspension sits.

First time on its own wheels in over 2 years
Need to order some stiffer springs for the rear and maybe some 7" for the front, it's wound up about an inch on the Protecs as well at the moment. Need to tighten the hub nuts properly and stake them this weekend.

Now most the dirty work is done I decided to have a clean up and get some carpet down, the car got a free wash as well.
Got some of the fuel system in
Whipped up some front water pipes and put the clutch slave on
Lots more stuff to fit!

Re: Mgf donor car: building an MG Allegro VVC!
This is looking soooo good! I'll have to come up again to see it again
Stance looks good to me - bet the retrorides guys are putting on the pressure to slam it

Re: Mgf donor car: building an MG Allegro VVC!
Sure pop round if you're ever back up north is that vvc engine rebuilt yet?
It wont be slammed but will be a little lower, I've lowered the front a bit since the pics, changed the Protec orange bump stops for small black ones and wound the spring seats down. I might order some springs an inch shorter but 700lb / inch rather than 600 to loose a little more.
The rear is on 600lb but is miles too soft, a pair of 1250lb springs arrived this morning which should half the movement for the same amount of weight applied - think I might have to trim the holders slightly as they are a few mm wider.
Ordered silicone for the heater and expansion tank, easier to sort out than I thought with just a few 90 degree bends, reducers and joiners.
I put the shifter linkage on the other night and it just wasn't a good fit, couldn't select 1st or 2nd :/ spent a while looking at it and was about to bend the rod then realised it was on up side down! Now fits a treat although I need to drill and bolt the uj at both ends otherwise it slips.

Re: Mgf donor car: building an MG Allegro VVC!
It's there ready to rebuild Ed. I need to have a chat with Dave Andrews regarding the head porting though - and I'd also like to score a set of VHPD throttle bodies...
Re: Mgf donor car: building an MG Allegro VVC!
Let me know how much head porting is, I've another spare engine here ...

Re: Mgf donor car: building an MG Allegro VVC!
Will do. I need to drop Dave a line to see when I need to start pulling that engine into parts.
His website is http://www.dvapower.com
Power claims are generally on the pessimistic side of what is typically achieved
PS Having watched Project Binky on YouTube, just wondering whether you also need straps for your fuel tank?

Re: Mgf donor car: building an MG Allegro VVC!
I have thought about straps, could still be added. If you look on the last page I've added gussets into the current mounts to strengthen them and stop any cracking happening. Also having it sitting tightly in the recess will help I think.
