Mgf donor car: building an MG Allegro VVC!

Post by edk83 » Wed Mar 18, 2015 3:04 pm

Hi all

I'm picking up an mgf vvc from Wales on Saturday, looking forward to driving it with the hood down on the Welsh roads all the way back to Derbyshire! :D

It's not all good news for the Mgf however, as it's being used as a donor car and that drive home will be it's last! :o

I'm building a 16v Allegro of all things, using a TF front subframe and suspension. I will be dropping both subframes out of the mgf, over the next couple of weekends.

The rest of the car will be sold off as spares, including the MGF number plate, if anyone is interested let me know :)

Not the nicest first post I know however much of the car will be going towards building the fastest Allegro ever (hopefully)!

Hi There,

I would be interested in a bunch of smaller bits from your MGF and, if you aren't planning on using them, I would like all 4 hydragas spheres.
Keep me in mind when you get the car.

I want to follow this build edk3 - are you doing a build thread somewhere? (here?)

Is this the MGF VVC that was for sale on the forum classifieds? - this one? viewtopic.php?f=9&t=19773 - unfortunately the OP has removed details of the car in the original advertisement :|

Good luck with the build :)

I don't really know why, but I love old Leyland stuff, and actually thought about getting an Allegro as student wheels... but never found one. I think I have some pictures of a racing Allegro in Leyland racing colours somewhere (it wasn't in its first flush of youth unfortunately! )

Wow what a response!

Yes that does look like the very car I'm getting.

Here is my Allegro build
http://retrorides.proboards.com/thread/ ... 6v-allegro
and here
http://www.16vminiclub.com/forums/showt ... hp?t=36385

I will be using the complete engine, pg1 box, driveshafs, ecu and wiring, front brakes, maybe the clocks and wheels, probably a bunch of other stuff.

All the interior will be for sale, seats, hood, all four hydragas cans, lights, bodywork etc - I think its british racing green.

I also have two complete Allegro engines that will be for sale, one rebored to 1.8 with new pistons, phaser 600 bike carbs too as that's what it was running.

The cutting on the Allegro will start as soon as the MGF is gone!

As for the plate, I will need to wait until the logbook comes back in my name, so maybe 3 weeks or so. It's C10 MGF. The current owner has expressed an interest in keep it so I think I should give him first refusal seeing as I haven't collected the car yet!

If it goes up for sale on here the highest offer would take it however the buyer would need to pay the transfer fee £80.

Will do, depends on their condition. All I know about them at the moment is that they are holding pressure.

The rears normally go on ebay for about £50 - £60 each, the fronts about £20 each. I sold a rear one on ebay earlier this week for £45, ebay fees are a stinger though so I wouldn't would quite that much on here, was thinking maybe £90ish for the set.

I do also have another pair of rear mgf cans that I took off the front of the Allegro, they currently have Allegro knuckles on them and they seem well stuck! I will have another go at separating them but they might stay as Allegro items!

Hi edk83

Where are you based?

I maybe interested in some panels if it's British racing green, is the paint code HFF?

Cheers

Hi, what seats does the car have? Standard black half leather with green piping, or something more special - like cream full leather :thumbsu:
Thanks, Phil

Typically shipping isn't too bad... If we can send in the post, that is best.
I have had 3 MGF's (still have 2) which of course, aren't available in Canada, so I am used to ordering parts from the UK... :)

Other things I need,
Left side tail lamp
Left Side Engine intake piece (the painted bit with the mesh)
1 spring from inside the hydro unit (1 of mine sproinged away and I can't find it for the life of me....
the plastic mounts for the door speakers (don't need the speakers)
the centre console with the flip-down tray

More as I think of it...

I have to say having just viewed a picture of the MGF in question on fleeced bay - C10 MGF number plate sale - from the picture it looks a really nice MGF. I guess from viewing the for sale link it needs welding & has short MOT. A shame & kinda annoying that it is being broken. :( Quite fancy the chrome door mirror covers but...

Yeah it looks pretty good in the pics, the close up ones show its pretty rusty though. The seller is keeping the chrome intake covers, not sure about the mirror covers, if I get them I'll let you know.

Take it easy on the way home - Pirelli P6000 is one of the tyres NOT recomended for the F, I had some on mine when I got them and they were horrible.
