To my eyes, your welding is getting ever better!
I haven't practiced in ages...

Re: Mgf donor car: building an MG Allegro VVC!
I have to confess that my mate is a welder by trade so some of the neater bits may not have been done by me!
My favourite has to be the front arb mounts that are made from mgf rear mount plates, perfectly neat upside down welding
I'm happy making stuff that isn't so structural, but some things are better done properly.
Chopped the accelerator pedal off the obp box last night, was too close to the brake for my big feet.

Trimmed the seats to prevent arms from being sliced off
Started chopping up a spare rear beam for coilover conversion.
Bummer the Avos I have are about 3" too long, liked them as they have massive height adjustment. Don't really fancy cutting the boot floor out more to make them fit - Oh well, ordered some 12" Spax mini coilovers to offer up instead.

Mk1 golf splitter test fit with modded subframe, yeah I think we'll get away with that.
Test fitted the bumper and a steel grille surround, ignore the mesh it'll be mk1 Allegro vertical bars. Might paint the bumpers black to match the black trim on the doors I have for it. Maybe.

Nice, keep it up
Re: Mgf donor car: building an MG Allegro VVC!
Well today we finished fabriacting the front strut brace, the bits just need drilling and bolting now.
Also started reinforcing the firewall to mount the pedal box, chopped the accerator pedal off as I want to move it.
Added some supports as I dont want it flexing under braking
Needs drilling and bolting
At the moment the steering column is mounted in the standard place on the pressed front panel, it flexes if any weight is put on it, added some tube to stop that. Also ordered a Morris minor clamp mount which I'm going to add later.

Re: Mgf donor car: building an MG Allegro VVC!
I decided the chinese slim quick release was a load of rubbish and bought a proper weld on job. It's many times better but still has a very tiny amount of play, not enough to notice though so acceptable.
This is the slug and column
Tig welded
Also found a proper unicorn of an mgzr 160, 1 mature lady owner from new, 70k miles, hg and cam belt done 2 years go. Using this as a daily till I decide if I want the engine, the car is pretty rusty but the engine is really clean and its super quiet on tick over I got her to rev it over 6k neutral to test the vvc, she was panicing as it's only ever done the shopping!
Interior is mint, full stainless exhaust and one of those full screen pioneer headunits that cost a stupid amount 10 years ago.

Nice centre cap!
Re: Mgf donor car: building an MG Allegro VVC!
All the way from Portugal that
Offered up some box section for a strut brace utilising the existing top engine steady mount points.
Now all done and test fitted
Also some more cad templates for rear anti roll bar mounts.

Re: Mgf donor car: building an MG Allegro VVC!
Shock Cannons! Back from the bead blasters and rolled some 3mm plate to make the tubes. Now to figure out how long they want to be and put the ends / shock mounts on.

With all that CAD, I suspect the influence of Project Binky!
Re: Mgf donor car: building an MG Allegro VVC!
Yes about time they did the next episode, was a bit dissapointed in the last couple.
Amazing project but there are better donor cars out there surely.
I love how they click thier fingers and turn card into metal, takes me a bit longer !

Re: Mgf donor car: building an MG Allegro VVC!
Card templates now in steel
Welded on with some captive bolts
Now has an arb at the back
Wondering if it could do with some extra bracing to the boxes. Boot floor is rather thin although they are both welded neatly into the corners.

Re: Mgf donor car: building an MG Allegro VVC!
Added extra steering column support today, the clamp is from a 1930s car! Just happened to be the right diameter and two sections.

Re: Mgf donor car: building an MG Allegro VVC!
Cleaned up the rear beam, not too bad
Spax mini coilovers back from the tig welders with knuckle tubes attached from some spare rear displacers.
As I've decided to paint the whole thing the rear window came out to investigate a bit of rust under the seal, doh - rear speakers may have to come out !

The metro gti rear anti roll bar bolts to the boot floor, I think you will be fine with what you have done.
