Ah, but you've only just started, the job's not finished until the final polish is done. If all the work you've done so far is any indication it'll be a stunner!

Nine hours masking pulled off in 20min, almost a shame!

It's come out well, a bit of polshing needed when its hardend fully here and there but how far do I go?

Started putting bits of grills back on, want to get the front spillter mounted but I really should crack on with the doors!

No lol it's 2k solid colour.

Next job doors and the top side of the boot and bonnet, then stick it all together :)

I've not prepared the doors yet so that'll take a while

 I thought it looked far too good a finish! :thumbsu:

PS Need to pick up those bits from you some time. The ZR is now in the lock up since Phil has done his thing with the Pektron reverse engineering (so at least the car has been a good investment for the whole community :))

More painting done today, doors, bonnet and boot lid. Came out pretty well although we may have to do the bonnet again, sweat drip out the mask landed on it! Will have to let them cure a couple of weeks and attempt to flattern.

Threw all the lights on, first test for clearance - looks like the mgf rad was made for the Allegro :)

Need to get another dust cover boot thing, these later lights use H4 bulbs

Starting to look a bit more like a car for the first time in a long time. Chucked the doors back on, the rears are good but the fronts need shimming and came from a later car. On a good note though the door hinge pin that I had a fight with seems well and the window winders even look like they might clear the roll cage, having to open the door to roll the window down could have been annoying!

Now to build it back up, I'm far more practiced at taking things apart though.

Seeing as the fuel cell is in the boot it needs to be sealed and separate from the passenger compartment. So today I've made a parcel shelf in Ali and the back seat support is steel, bolted and sealed. Got my speakers in too, sounds quite good :)

Mini update

Fitted the mk1 golf front splitter, pretty pleased with it, test fitted early style grille and bumper. Actually quite like it, might keep it :)

Been busy fitting new weather seals and building locks. Harnesses are in, Rear doors half built, front ones need shimming and are being a pain. Some paintwork to flatten maybe this weekend.

Small update, golf splitter !

On it with the polishing machine today, not perfect but much better and good for a home garage effort. Next job wax it.

Faffing with little bits like adapter brackets to fit classic mini wing mirrors to the mk3 allegro doors. Making mounting brackets for the grill that I was missing.

Slow progress

I always suspected my car was built on a Friday, now I have proof! 15 June 1979

Stripped the front door cards down, now I want to use these as a template to get them done in sheet ally, need to find someone to laser cut them.
