Interesting MGF for saving?

Post by Tipper » Fri May 01, 2015 5:56 pm

So is this car of any importance?

Steve Harper, the owner, is apparently the originator of the original MGF design and went on to work on many car designs including for SAIC.

I doubt the car is of great value except to a real enthusiast.

However
Included in the price is a large 4.5’x 2’ board with pictures of the original sketches and full size clay model.
would be.
Home to black Alfa 159 3.2 V6 Q4, blue MGZR160, green MGF VVC and grey MGF 1.8i, and red MG Maestro T16.

This was for sale last autumn, don't know if sold and the new owner is selling again, or the original seller didn't move it on.

Well it is a 1996 car, making it a car with a relative high vin number. Should it be a 1995, especially wit a vin below 251 (pre production models) then value would ad up a bit.
The relation between a previous owner and the car should be wide spread and accepted to add up any value, I'm afraid this is not the case here.

With about 125000 cars sold I guess you should bug an F orTF for fun and driving rather than as an investment. Come back in 40 years and prices may rise (comparing situation in the Ductch market for MGB and MGA ( relative cheap vs steep rising prices)
MGFvvc - 90FVBG - charcoal - you might think it is original - (1996 nr:8204)
MGTF 120 - 57RNJ7 - BRG - every day is an MG day - (2005)
MGC CGT - SJ08DY - tartan red - 1985 restauration fairly original - (1968 nr: 4137)

Stephen Harper is a friendly guy and had an amusing and interesting lecture at MGF20, but I doubt that his ownership will add muh to the value.
As Kasper said, it would have been a bit different if it was an early car or a car with some interesting features.

Regarding increaing value like MGA, MGB, .... true, but I doubt about the popularity of 'poluting' cars during the upcoming decennia. We already see a shift in the behaviour of youngsters: they prefer the latest smartphone, nice trips, clothing ... above having a car.

Well, Steve was the MGF's concept designer - he didn't do the final designs, which were largely done at Rover - and where good ol' Gerry McG comes in... ;)
