MPG
Evening
I was just wondering what the F's are like on fuel?
I had enough to get back from where I brought it and a bit of around town driving (120) and then it looked a bit low
So have filled it up with V power rocket fuel, but just wondered what a full tank would return with sensible driving?
Also is there a low fuel light or just on the red?
Thanks

Re: MPG
There is just a Red sector on the indicator, no fancy light or so, too much weight
The fuel tank does not have an optima shape resulting in a fuel level that shows worst than it is in reality. A few quick turns will move the indicator up again.
Being continental it is a bit hart to indicate in MPG but a tank could bring you up to plus 400 miles from the last fuel filling. But roundabouts, busy traffic and fiercely accelerating harms the score.
In continental values I do about 12,5 km per litre. On stretched A roads and motorways it is stretched up to 15 km/l. Without any slow or sluggish driving...
Values both on a vvc and a stepspeed the first one is a bit more economical to drive.

Re: MPG
In my VVC before it was improved the best was 46MPG on a long trip, a mixture of city and a little country 32mpg
My TF 160 driving on an economy type run, I managed 50MPG and I was the worst!!!!! Average low 30's

Re: MPG
In 140,000 miles with one MPi I have had over 500 miles from a tank more than once doing daily drive journeys - the tank may be 50 litres but the pipework can hold another 5 litres!
Geekily I record every drop of fuel ever put in it, then divide my total miles by the total fuel to give a real figure of 41 mpg - which includes tinkering, MOTs and stopped in traffic as well as driving on 'favourable' runs.
So considering it is a twenty year old car and a thirty year old engine design the answer must be 'surprisingly good' on fuel consumption. It would probably have been even better if the one-size-fits-all catalytic converter legislation hadn't been imposed, forcing enrichment to keep the cat happy. I have a second MPi with lower mileage also nearly twenty years old which has the original cat and still flies through the MOT emissions test even though there can't be much platinum remaining!

Re: MPG
You need to be aware that there is an optimum angle for the fuel nozzle otherwise it will "Turn Off" before the tank is full.
There are various opinions as to which way the nozzle should point however I find that it needs to point forward.

However any method that fills it up just to the level it doesn't flow over the edge of the nozzle should do

Thanks
I drive a van also (vivaro sport) and being in the diesel world everything is based on MPG, as opposed to BHP lol
400+ seems a good return, gonna venture up to the Lake District next week for my birthday, didn't wanna be stopping for fuel every 5 mins

The fuelly iPhone app has dreadful reviews - the web version seems much better.
Not tried it yet, but thinking of downloading the iPhone MPG Calc Free app (Stephen Peters) - seems basic and straightforward, and should do what it says on the can.

Re: MPG
It depends on how heavy your right foot is!!!
I have noticed that my consumption has risen, MPG dropped, since fitting the S/S sports exhaust over 400 to the tank was normal but the gauge is getting near the bottom with only 330 on the odomenter

Re: MPG
So you are saying the S/S exhaust is a scam by the oil companies and government to get you to use more fuel and pay more tax?

I'm not an iPhone fan, especially the predicate text execution. I don't know if there is a windows mobile app but I have the web site book marked on the browser on my Lumia.Rob Bell wrote:The fuelly iPhone app has dreadful reviews - the web version seems much better.

Re: MPG
Guilty .......................... as charged In fact I recently discovered that the MPi does in fact have a rev limiter misjudged an overtake so dropped into 2nd and hit the limiter. Also noticed that I am tending to change up later rather than the 2,500 rpm it's now more like 3,500+ rpm.Rob Bell wrote:You are enjoying the noise of the new exhaust Kevin (aka Mr Lead foot! )Plezier wrote:It depends on how heavy your right foot is!!!

Re: MPG
In my lifetime, I have never considered the cost of petrol or beer.
At the same time, I have never considered the consumption rate of either.
These are simply facts of life.
There are better things in Life to consider.

Re: MPG
You're so right.......
For my MGC I say: the faster the petrol level sinks, the more fun I have
14 miles to the gallon is a high rate of fun not of fuel consumption.

Re: MPG
Just got back from a 1700 mile trip to France and back, best consumption per tank was just under 50mpg, averaqed well over 40.
I believe that the TF160 has the most fuel efficient engine.
