Re: TF Race Car Build
Brakes and clutch bled yesterday and managed to fix the idle problem I've been chasing for the last 3 weeks. Will get pics of the finished drivers window up next week. Still got geometry and a whole host of other '10' minute jobs to do, so unfortunately the car won't be going to Oulton Park this week

Yes, it's a time consuming job with fitting - removing - tweaking -fitting etc but massive weight saving. Will take some pics with measurements on them using masking tape for you.Rob Bell wrote:Looks good in the pictures - are you pleased with them?
Now I need to remove them, paint the frames and stick some neoprene onto the swidebetween the window and ally and the side between the ally and the door top, to stop water getting in.

Made a little discovery this week: the rear deck trims on the TF are over 100 grammes lighter each than the solid metal chromed items on the MGF. I've now thanked the Project Drive gods, and Project Shed is now nearly quarter of a kilo lighter

Car loaded up to go for wheel alignment Tuesday, then up to Boulmer on Wednesday for a STEM event.

Nice! I love the similarity to the F-Extreme concept of 2001:

Wasn't happy with the location of the o2 sensor - to close the the inner cv boot, so moved it.

Lightened the ecu bracket this afternoon. Also had the car on the 4 poster, so took a better picture of the oil cooler pipe installation.

That's where the inspiration came from.

I like that bit of stealthy lightening going on there!flyingbanana wrote:Lightened the ecu bracket this afternoon. Also had the car on the 4 poster, so took a better picture of the oil cooler pipe installation.

Re: TF Race Car Build
Any concerns about running w/o the under body plate? I know it's quite heavy but are you likely to get greater flexing of the shell under cornering loads?

Re: TF Race Car Build
I removed the underbody plate on Project Shed. It gives a far smoother under body, and with a full FIA cage bolted in, you don't notice its absence. I don't know, but I suspect that Jase's experience will probably be similar

Re: TF Race Car Build
None, as Rob says full bolt in cage and I have also added a B pillar brace which ties into the 'tunnel'. It should also be noted that the roll cage is tied into the top of the windscreen as well.Reckless Rat wrote:Any concerns about running w/o the under body plate? Re: TF Race Car Build
Well an eventfull first days racing for the first time in 5 years. Managed a 1:15 lap, which was a 2 second improvement on qualifying. A very hot day, race one on the penultimate lap, spun the car coming out of Brooklands and couldn't get it restarted - DNF. Race 2 DNF 2 laps from the end, bolt worked loose from the UJ on the steering column, separating tbe column from the rack at the entrance to Brooklands. So new battery needed and a lock nut added to the steering column bolts. So although not what might be considered a successful day, the car ran well in very hot conditions - just need get to grips with the handling of a mid engined rear wheel drive car.

Re: TF Race Car Build
First time out should be considered a shake down and not a proper days racing so don't be hard on yourself, the car ran well while it was running.

Re: TF Race Car Build
Always teething problems on a newly built car - I had a cam shaft oil leak and the alternator working loose on the 'Shed in the first 6-12 months of track days and shake-down road miles. But, hey, it is finished and it is racing! Now the next fun stages start!
