Re: TF Race Car Build
Post race postmortem started, one outer cv boot failed - grease everywhere and the other one now looks like it doesn't have long for this world.

Re: TF Race Car Build
Whilst looking for an outer cv boot came across these and couldn't help myself.

Re: TF Race Car Build
Well tried fitting the cup front axle this afternoon wouldn't fit and knackered the wheel bearing in the process. Will have to see if I have a spare metro hub in the garage otherwise new wheel bearing

Re: TF Race Car Build
I had a spare front hub from a metro in the garage, I have also noticed it has the holes drilled out for the stone guard and the TF doesn't - more fabrication on the horizon for an improved way the fit the brake cooling duct on the way...

Slimmed down the under body panel this afternoon so that it now sits flush all the way across where it bolts on.

Are these going to be a direct replacement for the overly heavy originals Jase?flyingbanana wrote:Whilst looking for an outer cv boot came across these and couldn't help myself.

I'm tempted! Saves having to modify the originals, although I could cut down a couple of spares and then get it tidied up in a lathe?

Re: TF Race Car Build
That's odd. What's the problem? Do they need to be pressed in?
Very tempted now. May be I'll ask Malcolm to bring a pair to Silverstone...

Re: TF Race Car Build
Looking good.
i've used the guys over at pro bolt as well as bonding the poly-carbonate rear screen into my race top. My first time at all this so the finish leaves a bit to be desired for haha. But I can always redo in later life. The alu bolts are super light as well
I'm looking next to replace the windows as you have with poly carbonate. I've found though that it's not so much the windows and motors that carry the weight but the door themselves!! over 30kgs each! Even the door card feels heavy. Once i've re-made and bonded the inner backing of the door onto my carbon doors I'm expecting to notice a bit of difference.
Then on to a the bonnet and boot.

Re: TF Race Car Build
I’ve got a GRP passenger door: this is seriously light compared to the original steel. But under class regs, you have to retain the original material of construction.
I’m planning on drilling a lot of holes with the objective of adding lightness. I may dimple-die them too, to add strength

Re: TF Race Car Build
My hardtop retains the rubber seals that Honeyborne supplied. Well, mostly: I’ve modified the hardtop to deck seal
How much weight do you save by ditching the rubber seal and chrome seal finisher? That rubber seal may be the next to go in the hunt for further weight saving

PS I’ve kept the electric motors and glass side windows: being able to open windows easily on hot sunny days makes them a weight penalty I’m prepared to pay

Re: TF Race Car Build
No, spent Sunday making new ducting for the radiator and cutting holes in the new fiberglass bonnet, and fitting a Metro front hub to replace the damaged one. Will take a look once I've got the new bonnet/ducting sorted out.Rob Bell wrote:Any update on the front stub axles mate? `flyingbanana wrote:Rob, yes but I can't get them in the hole .Rob Bell wrote: Are these going to be a direct replacement for the overly heavy originals Jase?

Re: TF Race Car Build
Out of 4 races this year, I finished one yesterday, although the dnf for the first race yesterday was due to the bonnet pin on the bonnet coming loose and not wanting to lose the new bonnet - more on that later. Weighed the car at Donington yesterday, half tank of fuel 970kg. Need to fit stiffer rear springs, as the rear was very wallowy.

Re: TF Race Car Build
Does anyone know how VHS managed to get their TF down to 875kg?

Re: TF Race Car Build
So, do you think making the TF trailing arms out of tube would save weight over the cast items??
