So work started on building my TF race car today.



Start of the afternoon complete car.



Interior stripped - dash caused headache with the 4 bolts where the vents are but eventually got it out.



Front end stripped, radiator removed ready to start making the ducting for radiator up through the bonnet.

Looking to get one of these to create the gurney flap as per the 200 hpd.

Started work on the ducting for the radiator this evening. Will transfer to aluminium before cutting the hole in the bonnet.

Rear part of the radiator duct fabricated this afternoon and hole cut in the bonnet. Next task will be to mount the radiator so i can do front part of the ducting to the bumper.

Productive afternoon in the workshop today.

Finished removing the drivers side floor bracing to allow me to mount the seat lower. I will weld a stiffener plate into the void created in the centre 'tunnel' to add rigidity to that section. I wish I'd used spotweld drill bits years ago.




Finally got the steering column mounted, as someone mentioned earlier the mk1 non EPAS steering columns mounting is different from EPAS ones. I used 2 nuts to allow me to mount it to the mounting below the standard TF ones.



Got two sections of 25mm box section and sat them on the floor to try the seat position.





Which dash to use?



Carried on work with the radiator ducting. I realised the other night I needed to cut a section out of the front upper section of ally due to the shape of the slam panel. The rwar duct now fits better.





The next task was to actually mount the radiator.



Small bracket made to hold radiator up.



Front section of radiator ducting fabricated, but still needs riveting together.





Bumper refitted

Not much to report, I've been working my way through the loom removing parts no longer reqd - heater, EPAS etc. I'm trying to relocate the fuse box as well, as I'm not happy with it hanging down near my right leg.

Don't feel like I've achieved a lot today. Spent the afternoon sat down with the instrument loom and wiring diagrams trying to decifer some of the colours were a nightmare. Anyway paired it down and labeled all the wires so I could wire up the new dash. Added an oil pressure gauge and started wiring it up, although still waiting on some led warning lights so I can get them wired in as well.

Back in the workshop this afternoon, just as I was about to weld the new mounting brackets for the fuse box on the welder decided to break. The arm the clamps the wire to the feed roller broke - but in true RAF fashion I bodged a fix and got it to work sufficiently to tack the brackets on ��.





Happier with the new position of the fuse box, much better access and not next to my leg.

Not much to report, fitted the ignition, low brake fluid and full beam warning lights to the dash. Lightened the boot lid, tried to remove rear bumper - fell out with the 'crush can' on the N/S and then the bolt in the inside of the boot sheared off on the off side, but eventually got the bumper off. Went to remove the exhaust - not happening so cut the whole thing off in front of the cat with my reciprocating saw.

Phew !, well done that's some task and great to see it bit by bit, thanks for sharing

I looking forward to this thread there is someone doing a tomcat on another forum both very interesting some clever bods out there.

How do you plan to finish the hole in the bumper?
Is it worth getting a smaller fuse box as you have removed half the circuit it covers?

Well, I'm now £516 poorer after ordering a manifold from Mike Satur last night.

1st time I have read all the way through project shed thread very enjoyable it was to, in the past I have re shelled 2 fs, and virtually rebuilt a couple of 160s from write off but nothing like the work involved in both of these threads.

Tried the Wilwood Dynapro Single on the rear with 240 discs, plenty of space to go to 280 and 20mm clearance on the wheel.







Also trial fitted my Protech coilovers on the front.



I think I will have to get a shorter bolt though.

The roll cage arrived just before Christmas fm Safety Devices, but the front has somehow been damaged and the NS A piller leg was bent more than I could jack out, so the replacement section won't be here until the end of next week, this has put me behind at least a month .

Good idea to relocate the fusebox. Labeling and documenting is important as time for troubleshooting is often limited and expensive (trackday time is counting)

Will you be using the competition hardtop or just top down all the way ?

I am planning to get Protech shocks too - when I convert to TF suspension
