coolant temp sensor

Post by andy8688 » Fri Feb 12, 2016 6:17 pm

I have just purchased a brown coolant temperature sensor, I have just noticed the one I have fitted is black.
My mgf is a 2001, Would the brown one still fit.

A 2001 will most likely have a VIN ending in a 6-digit number ≥ 522573 (MEMS3), which means the correct sensor indeed is MEK000030 (black). The brown one you’ve got is MEK100060 or MEK100061, to be used with the older ECUs (MEMS1.9 and MEMS 2J).

The brown and black sensors are not interchangeable, the wrong one will give inaccurate readings to your ECU and your car will run rough.
Home to black Alfa 159 3.2 V6 Q4, blue MGZR160, green MGF VVC and grey MGF 1.8i, and red MG Maestro T16.
