TF VIN

Post by talkingcars » Wed Nov 16, 2016 10:57 pm

I recently bought a 02 TF
For some reason I decided to check the VIN

This vehicle was the 63rd MG TF to run off the production line, out of 41,656
This vehicle was the 45th MG TF 135 to be made out of 19,475
This vehicle was the 33rd MG TF in Trophy blue (code: JFV) to be made out of 5,201 Trophy blue MG TFs

Are there any older TFs out there?

Ah cool- nice early car!

The VIN for the TF broke with Abingdon tradition of starting at 251 and started at 101- just pm'd you as don't want to start throwing vin numbers about etc.

'02 TF 160 - an Original MG Rover Group Press Car...and still lookin' sharp!

Bilstein Shocks, Z&F Remap, B&G Coolant Alarm, Glass Rear Screen, Braided Hoses, Bling-free at the moment...but that'll probably change

Just looked at my VIN. It appears mine is the 512th off the line and in Trophy blue (JFV). If I have read the VIN correctly. Is it the first 3 numbers of the last 6?

Thanks for the pmails Stuart

It is 138 which makes it pre-production I guess.
The TF braces are in satin black.
It still has the clip on the front bulkhead for the hydragas hoses.

Apparently the sequence number is 77237 which would mean it was included in the F production numbers.

The cicode is H5070, I have no idea what this means.

It is a BJ02 registration.

The off assembly date Thursday is 20th December 2001 @ 10:11:28 but it wasn't registered until 28th March 2002.
IIRC my first ZS was registered on the 20th December 2001.

Where are you getting your info from James ?

Sorry but this stuff is rubbish, they have missed loads of cars in their data, if you want to know anything about your car, please ask me I hate people getting rubbish info from places that have it very wrong.

It is the 38th TF, the first being 101 which has just surfaced with only five miles on the clock. 101 was used rather than 251 as it was the Longbridge phone exchange number.

H5070 is the cicode and tells you it was new to Evans Halshaw in Reading.

There are 42629 TF's built

There are 5217 in Trophy Blue JFV

Fourbears, the vin number is all six of the sequence starting (on a MGrover TF) with 6......except for 43 pre-production cars carrying the MGF vin sequence of 5....... For example 000101 being the first

That figures, it's uncorrected wrong factory data. I know all of the vin's, we work seven days a week on correcting and perfecting our data, if you need any info please drop me a line.
