Another one saved …
Well, after the first 50-ish miles I think I can now dare to proclaim this one as saved:
Unfortunately I needed the fuel pump and alternator for another car a couple of weeks later, but that’s a different story. Again, Markus’s wonder box could help out with the seized alternator from the other car, and a pump unit could also be obtained …
Inspection was due in November, so I quickly registered the car , a week later the recon cylinder head was fitted. The engine started on the first turn of the key, even though some parts had apparently disappeared at some earlier “repair attempt”. On Sunday, the car was pumped up (thanks again to Markus!) and winter wheels put on. I have been using this MGF since yesterday and for the mileage (still on its original engine!!) it’s doing quite well: Some small niggles need to be fixed, mainly to pass the inspection, but I’m convinced to be able to use this car as a stop gap while the Steppy is suffering from serious gearbox incontinence. Funny thing, this is my first LHD MGF …
What’s next, time will tell …
It had been offered to me for breaking due to a snapped cam belt. With friendly help from our forum, the transport and intermediate storage could be organised. In early October I finally had the car with me and looking at it thought it would be a shame to dismantle it. So the cylinder head (in surprisingly good condition!) had some new valves fitted and lapped, a big thank you to Markus, who has the appropriate tools to do this.Unfortunately I needed the fuel pump and alternator for another car a couple of weeks later, but that’s a different story. Again, Markus’s wonder box could help out with the seized alternator from the other car, and a pump unit could also be obtained …

Re: Another one saved …
That would taste a bit of false laurels, Charles, with only 50 of them done myself so far. I think at least ⅓ “own ones” should be the limit.
But did you realise that I’m now finally playing in your league, Admiral? This one actually makes it three.
Anyway, if everything goes to plan, I will be taking the green one to FRL and Stoneleigh in February. Toughness test. When Cully, the Monogram TF is back on the road in April, and the Steppy hopefully cured from its gearbox oil leak, the green one might get handed to Adrian as a permanent loan. No, not that Adrian, but my daughter Amélie’s boyfriend. So they can have a bit of decent fun in the summer …

This is actually a bit awkward atm Kasper, after having driven properly for six years – and sitting on the wrong side now … but I think I’ll copeKasper wrote:Eehhh, never thought you would be driving an MGF or TF with the steering wheel on the left
