Tools required to fit an Alternator Adjuster
My alternator belt is squealing on start up so when I fix it thought I may as fit an Alternator Adjuster to make it easier in future.
I did try and adjust it previously however the bolts were stuck tight and I don't think I had the best tools for the job so can anyone recommend what tools will help me with this particular job especially the sizes and lengths etc?
Then I can give it another go!

Re: Tools required to fit an Alternator Adjuster
IIRC there are 14mm, 15mm and 17mm bolts involved.
I think I used a long ring spanner on a stuck bolt, an extension rested on the C of the spanner and wacked this with a hammer.

Thanks for that.
Can anyone else confirm if they are 14, 15 & 17mm bolts before I buy some xl ring spaners?

Might I suggest a generous application of Plus Gas the day before, and then another before you start dismantling.

Re: Tools required to fit an Alternator Adjuster
Ok I just brought a set of xl ring spanners from 8-19mm so they will fit either way.
Can someone show me where I can get an extension as I can't seem to find one?

Mine came in my 1/2" socket set.

Re: Tools required to fit an Alternator Adjuster
Oh right is that it, I thought it was an extension that fitted on to a spanner
Re: Tools required to fit an Alternator Adjuster
We made our own ring spanner extensions by taking a length of rectangular bar and welding plates about 2 ins apart on either side of one end. These have long been replaced with 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 in sockets with accompanying T Handles, Ratchets, Extensions, Breaker Bars and UJs with selected sockets including integral UJs.The most expensive are the cheapest as they wil not damage nuts and bolt heads and last a lifetime.
I have not used a ring spanner other than a crowfoot (a split ring spnner for pipe unions) for years.

Re: Tools required to fit an Alternator Adjuster
Finally got my alternator bolts undone, tons of plus gas and a good whack with a rubber mallet eventually did the trick.
I checked the belt which had some wear so replaced it and also fitted the alternator adjuster bar which should make things easier in future.
Started her up and no squel...aleluya!!
Thanks for the advice on this...
